Hitachi LSI HD63484 Advanced CRT Controller chip (ACRTC) is a GPU created by Hitachi in 1984 that supports 4K display resolution. Description The LSI HD63484 was built in 2 μm CMOS technology and had about 60,000 MOSFETs and could operate at 8 MHz. ACRTC introduced a screen resolution of 4096×4096 pixels at 1-bit color depth (monochrome), or 1024×1024 at 16-bit color (65,536 colors). Focused on computer graphics for the emerging desktop publishing market with bitmap printing. The chip had the ability to program the synchronization signal of CRT monitors. It could support up to 2 megabytes of video memory and offered an asynchronous DMA bus interface that could be mapped to 16-bit ISA and VME buses. The High-Performance Graphics Display Controller 7220 (commonly μPD7220 or NEC 7220) is a video display controller and a Graphics processing unit, capable of drawing lines, circles, arcs, and character graphics to a bit-mapped display. It was developed by Nippon Electric Company (NEC) in order to support the Kanji character set efficiently, which explains why the APC computer line had superior graphics compared to competing models. The TMS34010, developed by Texas Instruments and released in 1986, was the first programmable graphics processor integrated circuit. While specialized graphics hardware existed earlier, such as blitters, the TMS34010 chip is a microprocessor which includes graphics-oriented instructions, making it a combination of a CPU and what would later be called a GPU. The chip was heavily used in arcade video games from the late 1980s through the mid 1990s, primarily from Atari Games and Midway Games. VMEbus (Versa Module Eurocard bus) is a computer bus standard physically based on Eurocard sizes. 4K resolution refers to a horizontal display resolution of approximately 4,000 pixels. Digital television and digital cinematography commonly use several different 4K resolutions.
