The ALCO RSD-12 was a AAR wheel arrangement#C-C, C-C diesel-electric locomotive rated at . 171 locomotives were produced. They were used in much the same manner as its four-axle counterpart, the ALCO RS-11, although the six-motor design allowed for better tractive effort at lower speeds. Original buyers Preservation • Nickel Plate Road #329 is preserved at a museum in Bellevue, Ohio. • Southern Pacific Transportation Company, Southern Pacific #2954 and #2958 are preserved at the Southern California Railroad Museum in Perris, California. The Norfolk and Western Railway , commonly called the N&W, was a US class I railroad, formed by more than 200 railroad mergers between 1838 and 1982. It was headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia, for most of its existence. Its motto was "Precision Transportation"; it had a variety of nicknames, including "King Coal" and "British Railway of America". In 1986, N&W merged with Southern Railway to form today's Norfolk Southern Railway. The N&W was famous for manufacturing its own steam locomotives, which were built at the Roanoke Shops, as well as its own hopper cars. The Rede Ferroviária Federal, Sociedade Anônima (RFFSA, pronounced as ''Refesa'') () was the State-owned national railway company of Brazil created from ''Brazilian Federal Law #3.115'' on March 16, 1957, after several railroads were nationalized by the Brazilian government. However, the railroad did not take full effect until September 30, 1957. The RFFSA linked 42 railways together (both on documents and actual railroads), creating a regional system composed of 22 railroads. The goal of the RFFSA was to promote and advance the railroad sector of Brazil, creating a north-south-east-west rail network in all five regions of Brazil.
