Association de la Jeunesse Auxerroise (), commonly known as AJ Auxerre or by the abbreviation AJA, is a French professional association football, football club based in the Communes of France, commune of Auxerre in Burgundy. The club plays in Ligue 1, the top division of Football in France, French football, since the 2024–25 season after securing promotion from Ligue 2 as winners of the 2023–24 season. Auxerre plays its home matches at the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps, on the banks of the Yonne (river), Yonne River. The team is managed by Christophe Pélissier (footballer), Christophe Pélissier. The Stade Abbé-Deschamps () is the home of AJ Auxerre football club in Auxerre, France. It has a capacity of 18,541. Renovated in 1994, it was renamed the Stade Abbé-Deschamps after the abbot Ernest-Théodore Valentin Deschamps, who founded the club in 1905. Andrzej Szarmach
Andrzej Szarmach (; born 3 October 1950) is a Polish former professional footballer who played as a striker. Prior to the 1974 FIFA World Cup, he was virtually unknown. He played in the Poland national team during its "golden age" in the 1970s. With Grzegorz Lato at his right, Robert Gadocha at his left, and Kazimierz Deyna in support, Szarmach profited from the absence of Włodzimierz Lubański to lead the Polish attack, the best at 1974 World Cup, with sixteen goals. While Lato finished first in the Cup in goals with seven, Szarmach, with five goals, also marked the competition with his imprint. He confirmed his status two years later at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, winning the silver medal and the title of best player of the tournament, with nine goals. Guy Roux
Guy Marcel Roux (; born 18 October 1938) is a French former football player and manager known for being in charge of Auxerre for more than 40 years and for leading the team to national and worldwide prominence. Managerial career A native of Colmar, Roux played for Auxerre between 1954 and 1957 and became player-manager of the then Division d'Honneur (fourth level) club in 1961 to become its living legend and symbol. In 1970, Auxerre got promoted to the Division 3 League, and Roux retired as a player. In 1974, Auxerre got promoted again, this time to Division 2. With Roux in charge, the team made it to a Coupe de France final in 1979 and progressed to Division 1 in 1980. Lionel Charbonnier
Lionel André Michel Charbonnier (; born 25 October 1966) is a French football manager and former professional player who played as a goalkeeper. After retiring, he became a football manager and managed Aceh United of the Liga Primer Indonesia in the season before they folded along with their independent league. Charbonnier played for the Auxerre side which won the Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France in the 1995–96 season under the management of Guy Roux. After eleven seasons with Auxerre, from 1987 to 1998, he joined Rangers in Scotland, where he won the treble of Scottish Premier League, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup in his first season, 1998–99. Bernard Nicolas Thierry Diomède (born 23 January 1974) is a French football manager and former professional player. He was most recently the manager of the France U20s. Djibril Cissé
Djibril Cissé (born 12 August 1981) is a French former professional footballer who played as a forward. Cissé started his career at his boyhood club Arles-Avignon in 1989, before playing for the youth teams at Nîmes and Auxerre. Cissé spent two years in the youth system at Auxerre, before graduating to the first team in 1998.
