Albert Taylor "A. T." Sanders Jr. (November 10, 1926 – June 17, 1989), also known as A. T. "Apple" Sanders Jr., was a Democratic Party (United States), Democrat who served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, East Baton Rouge Parish from 1956 to 1964. His father, Albert Sanders Sr., was born in Amite County, Mississippi. Sanders attended Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University. Sanders and his wife, Gloria P. Sanders, had a son, Albert Sanders III, known as "Lil Apple". In 1987, Sanders unsuccessfully sought a political comeback when he challenged Republican Party (United States), Republican Louisiana State Senate, State Senator Kenneth Osterberger for reelection in District 16. The Louisiana State Legislature (; ) is the state legislature (United States), state legislature of the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is a bicameral legislature, body, comprising the lower house, the Louisiana House of Representatives with 105 representatives, and the upper house, the Louisiana State Senate with 39 senators. Members of each house are elected from single-member districts of roughly equal populations. The Louisiana State Legislature meets in the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge. In March 2023, Republicans gained a supermajority of the Louisiana legislature for a first in the history of Louisiana. Early history Jean Noel Destréhan and Allan Bowie Magruder were selected by the joint legislature to be Louisiana's first United States Senators on September 3, 1812.
