A. J. Watson
Abraham Jacob Watson (May 8, 1924 – May 12, 2014) was an American race car builder and chief mechanic. Competing from 1949 through 1984 in the Indianapolis 500, he won the race six times as a car builder. Rodger Ward won 18 races driving Watson cars. Biography Early life Watson was born in Mansfield, Ohio. He served in the United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War, training as a B-17 navigator. He would not see deployment before the war's end. Motorsports career Resettling in southern California, Watson came to Indianapolis in 1948 but missed the race. He returned the following year with a home-built car that failed to qualify. For the next 11 years, his cars not only qualified but were leaders in many years. Wayne Ewing
Albert Wayne Ewing (March 27, 1927 – February 12, 1986) was an American race car builder. Ewing started as engineer on drag-racers, before joining as a metal-working engineer on the Indy car IndyCar, LLC (stylized as INDYCAR), is an auto racing sanctioning body for American open-wheel car racing headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. The organization sanctions two racing series: the premier IndyCar Series with the Indianapolis 5 ... team assembled by A. J. Watson. Ewing occasionally branched out as an independent builder, and his cars competed in several Indianapolis 500s. March Engineering
March Engineering was a Formula One constructor and manufacturer of customer racing cars from the United Kingdom. Although only moderately successful in Grand Prix competition, March racing cars enjoyed much better success in other categories of competition, including Formula Two, Formula Three, American Championship Car Racing, IndyCar and International Motor Sports Association, IMSA IMSA GT Championship, GTP sportscar racing. 1970s March Engineering began operations in 1969. The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum is a hall of fame and museum for sprint car drivers, owners, mechanics, builders, manufacturers, promoters, sanctioning officials and media members. Speedway is a town in Wayne Township, Marion County, Indiana, United States. The population was 13,952 at the 2020 census, up from 11,812 in 2010. Speedway, which is an enclave of Indianapolis, is the home of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. History Speedway was laid out in 1912 as a residential suburb. It took its name from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, constructed three years earlier. It is an early example of a residential community planned for the industrial plants located nearby. Carl G.
