76 Classic
The DirecTV Classic was an eight-team college basketball tournament held during Thanksgiving week at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. The tournament began in 2007, and was owned and operated by ESPN Plus, ESPN Regional Television. Games were televised on ESPN2 and ESPNU. Until 2012, it was known as the "76 Classic"; ConocoPhillips's 76 (gas station), 76 chain owned the naming rights to the tournament. DirecTV sponsored the 2012 tournament. In 2013, the event merged with the Wooden Classic to form a new event, the Wooden Legacy. College Basketball
In United States colleges, top-tier basketball is governed by collegiate athletic bodies including National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). Each of these various organizations is subdivided into one to three divisions, based on the number and level of scholarships that may be provided to the athletes. Southern Illinois Salukis Men's Basketball
The Southern Illinois Salukis men's basketball team represents Southern Illinois University Carbondale in Carbondale, Illinois. The Salukis compete in the NCAA Division 1, and they play their home games at Banterra Center. As of March 2019, Saluki Hall of Fame basketball player, Bryan Mullins, has become the newest head coach of the Southern Illinois basketball program. History Prior to joining the NCAA, the Salukis competed in the NAIA men's basketball. Appearing five times, with a combined tournament record of 9 wins and 4 losses. Most notable tournament appearances came in 1945, in which the Salukis finished third, and then the following year in the 1946 tournament where the Salukis were NAIA national champions. 2011–12 Oklahoma Sooners Men's Basketball Team
The 2011–12 Oklahoma Sooners basketball team represents the University of Oklahoma in the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Sooners are led by Lon Kruger in his first season. The team plays its home games at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma and are members of the Big 12 Conference. Preseason Coaching Change On March 14, 2011, Oklahoma fired Jeff Capel, after the Sooners had back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 1967. Capel led the Sooners to a 17-36 record since Blake Griffin left for the NBA. Overall, Capel was 96-69 in five seasons. Capel received a $1.75 million buyout from Oklahoma. Da'Sean Butler (born January 25, 1988) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is currently an assistant coach for the College Park Skyhawks of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for West Virginia University. Butler was drafted 42nd overall by the Miami Heat in the 2010 NBA draft. The 2009 76 Classic was a 3-day, 8-team, 12-game men’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I exempt basketball event held on November 26, 27, & 29, 2009 during the 2009-10 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The tournament was sponsored by ConocoPhillips-owned brand 76. All games were played at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.
