39th TCA Awards
The 39th TCA Awards were presented on August 7, 2023. The nominees were announced by the Television Critics Association on June 30, 2023. This year, due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA/ WGA strikes, the TCA canceled its in-person event. The winners were announced via press release by the TCA. The category for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming was split into two categories: Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming, which recognizes shows catering to children ages 7 and older, and Outstanding Achievement in Children's Programming, for shows aimed at ages 7 and younger. 2023 SAG-AFTRA Strike
From July 14 to November 9, 2023, the American actors' union SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) was on strike over a labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). As the longest strike in SAG-AFTRA history, its combined impact with the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike resulted in the loss of 45,000 jobs, and "an estimated $6.5 billion" loss to the economy of Southern California. According to ''Deadline Hollywood'', the "harshest pain" was "perhaps felt among the below-the-line workers who've had to sell or mortgage their homes, and wipe through IRAs to survive." Apple TV+ is an American subscription streaming service owned and operated by Apple Inc.
