24th Group Army
The 24th Army was a military formation of the People's Liberation Army. It was established in February 1949 and finally disbanded circa 2000–2003. The 24th Corps() was activated in February 1949, which has originally consisted of the 70th Division (now 3rd Guard Division), 71st Division, and 72nd Division. In October 1950, the 71st Division detached from the corps and joined the PLAAF. In July 1952, the 73rd Division detached from the corps to join the 23rd Corps, which was later deployed into North Korea. The 74th Division joined the corps on August 26, 1952, after the disbandment of the 25th Corps. In September 1952, the corps, along with its 70th, 72nd, and 74th divisions, were deployed into North Korea as a part of the People's Volunteer Army. Chengde
Chengde, formerly known as Jehol and Rehe, is a prefecture-level city in Hebei province, situated about 225 km northeast of Beijing. It is best known as the site of the Mountain Resort, a vast imperial garden and palace formerly used by the Qing emperors as summer residence. The permanent resident population is approximately 3,473,200 in 2017. History In 1703, Chengde was chosen by the Kangxi Emperor as the location for his summer residence. Constructed throughout the eighteenth century, the Mountain Resort was used by both the Yongzheng and Qianlong emperors. The site is currently an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 5th Artillery Division() was activated on October 12, 1952 at Shaoguan, Guangdong. The divisional headquarters was converted from Headquarters, 146th Division. 1st Independent Division of Hebei Provincial Military District () was formed in July 1966 basing on six independent infantry regiment (1st to 6th) and independent infantry company of Hebei Provincial Military District. 71st Army Division()(2nd Formation) was formed in October 1969 from 3rd Engineer District of Beijing Military Region, and its designation was formally assigned in December. The division was a part of 24th Army Corps. From 1969 to 1985 the division was composed of: *211th Infantry Regiment; *212th Infantry Regiment; *213th Infantry Regiment; *Artillery Regiment. In 1983, 213th Infantry Regiment was detached from the division and transferred to the People's Armed Police. No evidence shows whether a new 213th Infantry Regiment was formed. The 198th Division() was created in February 1949 under ''the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army'', issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948, basing on the 3rd Brigade, 1st Column, 3rd Army Group of Huabei Military Region. Its origin could be traced to 4th Independent Brigade of Jicha Military District formed in June 1946. The division was a component of the 66th Corps. Under the flag of 198th division it took part in the Chinese civil war.
