2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup
The 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, the 19th edition of FIBA's premier international tournament for women's national basketball teams, was held in Sydney, Australia between 22 September and 1 October 2022. The United States were the three-time defending champion, and retained the title after a finals win over China in front of 15,895 attendants. Host Australia captured the bronze medal with a win against Canada. The competition recorded the highest number of attendance in history, with 145,519 people attending all games. Hosts selection Australia and Russia were the only two federations bidding for the tournament. The decision was made on 26 March 2020 during a video conference. FIBA Women's World Ranking
The FIBA Women's World Ranking is the FIBA's rankings of national women's basketball teams. FIBA ranks women's national teams in both senior and junior competitions. It also publishes combined rankings for all competitions involving both sexes. Calculation Since November 2019, FIBA uses a game-based system similar to the men's ranking. Until 2019 FIBA still uses the competition-based system to determine its women's rankings. As noted above, this system was also used to determine men's rankings prior to 2017. FIBA has announced that it will introduce a game-based ranking procedure similar to that currently used for men's rankings in the indeterminate future. 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament
The 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament determined the last ten teams for the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup. It was held from 10 to 14 February 2022. Format Sixteen teams, qualified from their respective continental championships, were divided into four groups of four teams each. The top three teams from each group qualified for the final tournament. Two already qualified teams, hosts Australia, and the 2020 Olympic gold medalists United States, participated in this tournament as well, therefore two teams qualified in the groups containing these teams. Qualified teams Draw The draw for the qualifying tournament took place on 23 November 2021.
