2021 SheBelieves Cup
The 2021 SheBelieves Cup was the sixth edition of the SheBelieves Cup, an invitational women's soccer tournament held in the United States. Featuring national teams from Canada, Brazil, Argentina, and hosts United States, it began on February 18 and ended on February 24, 2021. Argentina replaced Japan after it withdrew due to the COVID-19 pandemic. United States successfully defended their title, capturing their fourth title. Format The four invited teams played a round-robin tournament. Points awarded in the group stage followed the formula of three points for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss. A tie in points would be decided by goal differential; other tie-breakers are listed below. Venue * Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance at games was limited. SheBelieves Cup
The SheBelieves Cup is an invitational women's soccer tournament held in different cities in the United States in late February or early March. In its first three years (2016, 2017 and 2018), it was contested by the same four teams: the United States, England, France, and Germany. Since 2019 the tournament line up had featured different teams each year. The SheBelieves cup is played in late February or early March, at the same time as the Algarve Cup, the Arnold Clark Cup, the Cyprus Cup, the Turkish Women's Cup, the Pinatar Cup and the Tournoi de France. History The SheBelieves movement was inspired by the U.S. Women's National Team in their 2015 run-up to the Women's World Cup. The movement is meant to encourage young women to achieve their dreams, regardless of whether or not they are tied to athletics. Melissa Paola Borjas Pastrana (born 20 October 1986), known as Melissa Borjas, is a Honduran football referee. Borjas earned a degree in Finance at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras, and has been a professional referee since 2011. Borjas, best known by the local media as Melissa Pastrana, is tall and has been on the FIFA International Referees List since 2013. In 2015, she became the first Honduran woman to referee at the FIFA Women's World Cup when she officiated a match between Japan and Ecuador. Christen Annemarie Press (born December 29, 1988) is an American soccer player for Angel City FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States national team. She first appeared for the United States national team during an international friendly against Scotland on February 9, 2013.
