2019 FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship
The 2019 FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship is the sixteenth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship, contested by the women's national teams under the age of 18 of the members of the ' (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The final tournament was held in Egypt from 5 to 14 September 2019. Egypt were chosen as the hosts for this event for the first time. The finals involve 20 teams, of which 19 came through qualifying competitions, while the host nation qualified automatically. Of the 20 teams, 13 had also appeared in the previous tournament in 2017, while Cameroon women's national under-18 volleyball team, Cameroon and DR Congo women's national under-18 volleyball team, DR Congo made their first appearances at a FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship. The FIVB Senior World Rankings is a ranking system for men's and women's national teams in volleyball. The teams of the member nations of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), volleyball's world governing body, are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. A points system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of all FIVB-recognised full international matches. The rankings are used in international competitions to define the seeded teams and arrange them in pools. The 2019 Girls' Youth Pan-American Volleyball Cup was played from May 19 to May 27, 2019 in Durango, Mexico. Eight teams competed in this tournament. Peru won the tournament for the first time defeating Puerto Rico. Since Peru had already qualified for the 2019 World Championship through the South American Championship, Puerto Rico and Mexico qualified instead. Janelly Ceopa of Peru was named the tournament MVP. The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) is the international governing body for the sports of volleyball in Northern America, Central America, and the Caribbean. The 2018 Girls' Youth NORCECA Volleyball Championship was the eleventh edition of the bi-annual volleyball tournament. It was held in Tegucigalpa National Gymnasium, Tegucigalpa, Honduras from 25 August to 2 September among eight countries. The United States won the tournament and qualified for the 2019 FIVB Girls' World Championship along with Canada. United States player Jessica Mzurik won the Most Valuable Player award.
