2016–17 KNVB Cup
The 2016–17 KNVB Cup was the 99th season of the annual Dutch national football cup competition. It started on 6 September 2016 with the first of six rounds, and ended on 30 April 2017 with the 2017 KNVB Cup Final, final played at Stadion Feijenoord, De Kuip in Rotterdam. This edition was notable for several unicums, which included holding the first test in an official match of a top tier-domestic competition of the Video assistant referee-system. Anouar Kali held the distinction of becoming the first player to receive a red card after an intervention from the video referee in the first round-game between AFC Ajax, Ajax and his team Willem II (football club), Willem II. The defending champions were Feyenoord from the Eredivisie, after beating FC Utrecht 2–1 in the final in 2015-16 KNVB Cup, the previous season on 24 April 2016. Stadion Feijenoord
Stadion Feijenoord (), more commonly known by its nickname De Kuip (, the Tub), is a stadium in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It was completed in 1937. The name is derived from the Feijenoord district in Rotterdam, and from Feyenoord, the club with the same name (although the club's name was internationalised to Feyenoord in 1973). The stadium's original capacity was 64,000. In 1949, it was expanded to 69,000, and in 1994 it was converted to a 51,117-seat all-seater stadium, all-seater. In 1999, a significant amount of restoration and interior work took place at the stadium prior to its use as a venue in the UEFA Euro 2000 tournament, although capacity was largely unaffected. 2017–18 UEFA Europa League
The 2017–18 UEFA Europa League was the 47th season of Europe's secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA, and the 9th season since it was renamed from the UEFA Cup to the UEFA Europa League. The final was played at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Décines-Charpieu, France. Atlético Madrid defeated Marseille to win their third Europa League title. As winners, Atlético Madrid earned the right to play against the winners of the 2017–18 UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid, in the 2018 UEFA Super Cup. Hans Hateboer
Hans Hateboer (born 9 January 1994) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a right-back for club Atalanta and the Netherlands national team. A Groningen youth product, Hateboer spent three-and-a-half Eredivisie seasons with the club before joining Italian club Atalanta in 2017. Tom Van Weert
Tom van Weert (born 7 June 1990) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a forward for Greek Super League club AEK Athens. Career Den Bosch Van Weert made his debut in professional football in the Eerste Divisie (second-tier) for Den Bosch on 5 December 2008 in a match against PEC Zwolle. On 6 March 2009, he scored his first senior goal in a 7–1 win over Eindhoven. In the 2010–11 season he grew into a regular starter for the club. Daniel "Danny" Hoesen (born 15 January 1991) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a forward. Club career Fortuna Sittard After short stints at local amateur clubs Hoesen enrolled in the Fortuna Sittard youth academy. Football Club Groningen () is a Dutch professional association football club based in Groningen, province of Groningen. Founded on 16 June 1971 as the successor of GVAV, the team compete in the Eredivisie, the highest tier of Dutch football. FC Emmen is a Dutch football club based in Emmen, Drenthe. They play in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football, after winning the 2021–22 Eerste Divisie title. 2016–17 Eredivisie
The 2016–17 Eredivisie season was the 61st season of the top-tier Dutch League Eredivisie since its establishment in 1956. The fixtures for this season were announced on 14 June 2016. Teams A total of 18 teams took part in the league: The best fifteen teams from the 2015–16 season, two promotion/relegation playoff winners and the 2015–16 Eerste Divisie champions. Sparta Rotterdam, the champion of the 2015–16 Eerste Divisie, returned to the Eredivisie after spending six seasons in the Eerste Divisie, whereas play-off winner Go Ahead Eagles returned to the Eredivisie after just one season. They replaced relegated teams Cambuur and De Graafschap. As a result of financial maladministration, the KNVB had originally taken FC Twente's license, causing them to relegate to the 2016-17 Eerste Divisie.
