The 2016 Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup was the eleventh Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup season, an open-wheel motor racing series for emerging young racing drivers based in Europe. Drivers and teams Race calendar and results The seven-event provisional calendar for the 2016 season was released on 8 October 2015. The calendar was set to remain unchanged and feature all the circuits that were in the previous season, but a further update replaced the event at Red Bull Ring with a stand-alone event at Hungaroring. Championship standings ;Points system Points were awarded to the top 20 classified finishers. Lando Norris
Lando Norris (born 13 November 1999) is a Belgian-British racing driver currently competing in Formula One with McLaren, racing under the British flag. He won the MSA Formula championship in 2015, and the Toyota Racing Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup in 2016. He also received the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award that year. He subsequently joined the McLaren Young Driver Programme in 2017 and won the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship, competing with Carlin Motorsport. Consequently, he was promoted to the Formula 2 Carlin team, where he finished second in 2018, competing with Carlin Motorsport. Marcus Armstrong
Marcus Cornelius Armstrong (born 29 July 2000) is a New Zealand motor racing driver. He is due to compete in IndyCar on road and street courses with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2023. Previously he competed in the FIA Formula 2 Championship between 2020 and 2022. He was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy between 2017 and 2021. Armstrong started single-seaters in 2014, and in the following year won his only single-seater title to date in the 2017 Italian F4 Championship whilst becoming runner-up in the 2017 ADAC Formula 4 Championship. He stepped to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2018, ending 5th. Thomas Neubauer (born 8 June 1999) is a French professional racing driver. He is the reigning champion of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup in the Silver Cup category, having also won the Dubai 24 Hour race overall, the Nürburgring 24 Hours in class and the Ferrari Challenge Finali Mondiali all in the same year. He currently competes in the IMSA SportsCar Championship for G-Drive Racing by APR and has previously competed in the European Le Mans Series.
