2015–16 Liga MX Season
The 2015–16 Liga MX season (known as the Liga BBVA Bancomer MX for sponsorship reasons) was the 69th professional season of the top-flight football league in Mexico. The season was split into two championships—the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura—each in an identical format and each contested by the same eighteen teams. Teams, stadiums, and personnel The following eighteen teams competed this season. Universidad de Guadalajara was relegated to the Ascenso MX after accumulating the lowest coefficient last season. Leones Negros were replaced by the 2015 Clausura Ascenso MX champion Dorados de Sinaloa, who won promotion after defeating the Apertura 2014 winner Necaxa in a promotion play-off. The Liga MX, officially known as the Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional football division in Mexico, holding 2 tournaments per year. The league is considered the strongest in North America, and among the strongest in all of the Americas. 2014–15 Ascenso MX Season
The 2014–15 Ascenso MX season began July 18, 2014 and is divided into two tournaments named Apertura 2014 and Clausura 2015. The Ascenso MX is the second-tier football league of Mexico. Changes from the previous season * U. de G. were promoted to Liga MX. * Atlante F.C. were relegated from Liga MX. * Zacatepec 1948 were relegated to Segunda División de México, but was able to purchase Cruz Azul Hidalgo's spot to remain in Ascenso MX and was rebranded Zacatepec Siglo XXI. Ascenso MX
Ascenso MX was the second tier of professional football in Mexico of the Mexican football league system. The champion of the competition was promoted to Liga MX (top-flight tier). The bottom team was relegated to Liga Premier (the third tier). It was sponsored by BBVA through its Mexican subsidiary BBVA, and was officially known as Ascenso BBVA MX. Formerly known as Primera División A (First Division A) the league rebranded in 2009 its name and competition format to Liga de Ascenso. It was rebranded in 2012 as Ascenso MX. The major changes: clubs do not need a FMF certification to be promoted and that the competition no longer used group stages. Ascenso MX was replaced by Liga de Expansión MX on April 17, 2020.
