2012 San Diego Mayoral Election
The 2012 San Diego mayoral election was held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, to elect the mayor for San Diego. Incumbent mayor Jerry Sanders was term-limited and ineligible to run for re-election. Municipal elections in California are officially non-partisan, though some candidates do receive funding and support from various political parties. The non-partisan primary was held Tuesday, June 5, 2012. As no candidate received a majority of primary votes to be declared elected outright, the top two finishers, San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio and Congressman Bob Filner, advanced to the November general election. The 2005 San Diego mayoral special election was a special election held on Tuesday, November 8, 2005, to elect the mayor for San Diego. The special election was necessary due to the resignation of former Mayor Dick Murphy. Steven C. Francis (born October 8, 1954) is an American politician and businessman. He served in the Nevada State Assembly for five years and twice ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of San Diego. He is a Republican. He is co-founder of AMN Healthcare. Personal life Francis was born in 1954 in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1978. He has lived in San Diego with his wife, Gayle, since 1987. Kevin Faulconer
Kevin Lee Faulconer (born January 24, 1967) is an American politician who served as the 36th mayor of San Diego, California from 2014 to 2020. A member of the Republican Party, Faulconer served as the member of the San Diego City Council for the 2nd district from 2006 to 2014. Faulconer was born in San Jose, California and grew up in Oxnard. He entered politics in the 1990s to work on the campaigns for then-Governor Pete Wilson; he began to run in San Diego City Council elections to represent the 2nd district in the early 2000s.
