The 2011–12 Super League Greece was the 76th season of the highest Association football, football league of Greece and the sixth under the name Super League. The season began in late August or early September 2011 and ended in May 2012 with the last matches of the European playoff round. Olympiacos F.C., Olympiacos are the defending champions, having won their 38th Greek championship in the 2010–11 Super League Greece, 2010–11 season. The league comprised 13 teams from the 2010–11 season and three promoted teams from the 2010–11 Football League (Greece), 2010–11 Football League. Super League Greece
The Super League Greece 1 ( el, Ελληνική Σούπερ Λιγκ 1), or Super League 1, is the highest professional association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced ''Alpha Ethniki'' at the top of the Greek football league system. It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May, with teams playing 26 games. As of May 2022, Super League Greece is ranked 15th in the UEFA ranking of leagues, based on performances in European competitions over the last five years. Since the foundation of the first official Panhellenic Championship in 1927, only six clubs have won the title. The current champions are Olympiacos, based in Piraeus. The Football League is the second division of the professional football system of Greece. The 2011–12 Football League was held for the second year under the name Football League after previously being known as ''Beta Ethniki''. The regular season began late, on 29 October, due to the Koriopolis scandal and the relegation of five teams for various offences. Koriopolis ( el, Κοριόπολις) is the name given by the Greek press to a match fixing scandal in Greek football that came to light in June 2011. The investigation centres on offences that include illegal gambling, fraud, extortion and money laundering. The name Koriopolis is a pun on the name of the Italian scandal of Calciopoli in 2006, and the Greek word ''korios'' (phone tap).
