2010 Ligurian Regional Election
The Ligurian regional election of 2010 took place on 28–29 March 2010. The incumbent President Claudio Burlando of the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) faced Sandro Biasotti, backed by The People of Freedom (PdL) and Northern League Liguria. Biasotti was President of the Region from 2000 to 2005, when he was defeated by Burlando. The Union of the Centre (UdC), a traditionally centre-right political force, supported the centre-left candidate Burlando. Burlando secured a second consecutive term, but the PdL came out as the largest party in the region. Majoritarian Representation
A majoritarian electoral system is an electoral system where the candidate with the most votes takes the seat using the winner-takes-all principle and in this way provides majoritarian representation. However, there are many electoral systems considered majoritarian based on different definitions, including types of ''at-large'' majoritarian representation such as block voting or party block voting ( general ticket), but district-based majoritarian systems such as first-past-the-post voting (FPTP/SMP). Where two candidates are in the running, the one with the most votes will have a majority, but where there are three or more candidates, it often happens that no candidate takes a majority of the votes (see Plurality (voting)). Majoritarian representation is applied here to mean district contests, not overall representation. Democratic Union For Consumers
Democratic Union for Consumers ( it, Unione Democratica per i Consumatori, UDpC) was a centrist Italian political party. The party supports consumer protection and trade union rights. History UD was founded on 11 September 2007 by two dissenting members of Democracy is Freedom – The Daisy (DL) who were opposed to the foundation of the Democratic Party (PD). Willer Bordon (leader of the new party) and Roberto Manzione, and two leading consumer rights leaders, Elio Lanutti and Bruno De Vita, leader of United Consumers, were integrated in the new party. The Right (Italy)
The Right ( it, La Destra) was a neofascist and national-conservative political party in Italy. Its leader and founder was Francesco Storace. History Foundation On 3 July 2007 Storace announced his resignation from National Alliance (AN) in a letter posted on his website, claiming that AN had become too centrist and moderate and in protest against the lack of internal democracy in the party, and on 27 July he announced the formation of a new party. On 10 November the party was founded in a constituent congress in Rome. On that occasion the Sicilian Alliance of Nello Musumeci merged into The Right, and Daniela Santanchè, a leading female member of AN, left the party to join The Right, broadening its appeal, as she was close to the Italian Liberal Party (PLI) and never joined the Italian Social Movement (MSI). New Italian Socialist Party
The New Italian Socialist Party or New PSI ( it, Nuovo Partito Socialista Italiano or ''Nuovo PSI'', NPSI), more recently styled as Liberal Socialists – NPSI, is a political party in Italy which professes a social-democratic ideology and claims to be the successor to the historical Italian Socialist Party, which was disbanded after the judiciary tempest of the early 1990s (see ''Mani pulite''). The party was founded in 2001 as Socialist Party – New PSI (''Partito Socialista – Nuovo PSI''), during a founding congress in Milan, but after the 2007 split of the Socialist Party, headed by Gianni De Michelis and Mauro Del Bue, it assumed the current name, under the leadership of Stefano Caldoro.
