200 South Tryon
200 South Tryon is a tall high-rise in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was completed in 1961 and has 18 floors. It is the 19th tallest building in the city. Gerald D. Hines Interestspurchased what was then called the BB&T Building in December 1998 and began a renovation process that added another floor which was completed in 2001. and in the process was upgraded to contain all Class B office space. When completed as the NCNB Building, the building stood as the first glass high-rise in North Carolina. The NCNB Building and the George Cutter Building across the street may have been the state's first Miesian glass and steel skyscrapers. Both buildings were based on the Lever House building in New York City. The Commercial National Bank Building, completed in 1912 and 12 stories tall, once stood on the site. Steel frame is a building technique with a "skeleton frame" of vertical steel columns and horizontal I-beams, constructed in a rectangular grid to support the floors, roof and walls of a building which are all attached to the frame. Two Wells Fargo Center is a high rise in Charlotte, North Carolina. Completed in 1971. It is currently the 14th tallest building in Charlotte. The building consists of 32 floors, an atrium, plaza, seven-story parking garage, and is connected to neighboring buildings via skybridges, as part of the Overstreet Mall. History The building was designed by LaBella Associates, formerly known as Pease Engineering and Architecture, with David Julian Moore was the architect on-site functioning as construction administrator. When completed, the 32-story building was called Jefferson First Union Tower. When it was completed it became the tallest building in North Carolina, overtaking the Winston Tower in Winston-Salem. 112 Tryon Plaza is a 22-story high-rise in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was the second tallest building in North Carolina when completed in 1927, and the tallest building in Charlotte for about 35 more years. It is currently the 21st tallest building in the city. Located on "The Square" at the corner of Trade St. and Tryon St. adjacent to a pocket park, this building has a premiere location in Uptown Charlotte, also known as Charlotte center city. Lever House
Lever House is a office building at 390 Park Avenue in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. The building was designed in the International Style by Gordon Bunshaft and Natalie de Blois of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) as the headquarters of soap company Lever Brothers, a subsidiary of Unilever. Constructed from 1950 to 1952, it was the second skyscraper in New York City with a glass curtain wall, after the United Nations Secretariat Building. The building contains 21 office stories topped by a triple-height mechanical section. The ground story contains a courtyard and public space, while the second story overhangs the plaza on a set of columns. The remaining stories are designed as a slab occupying the northern one-quarter of the site. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe ( ; ; born Maria Ludwig Michael Mies; March 27, 1886August 17, 1969) was a German-American architect. He was commonly referred to as Mies, his surname. Along with Alvar Aalto, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius and Frank Lloyd Wright, he is regarded as one of the pioneers of modernist architecture. South Tryon Square is a development consisting of two 14-story high-rises in Charlotte, North Carolina. The first building, at 201 South Tryon, was opened in 1961 as the Barclays American; from its second renovation, in 1999, the facade was changed to the current gray and green granite with green glass and ornamental metal. The second building, at 237 South Tryon, was opened in 2001 as a hotel branded Courtyard by Marriott and houses the 698-space parking garage.
