2024 Kentucky Senate Election
The 2024 Kentucky Senate election will be held on November 5, 2024. The Republican and Democratic primary elections were held on May 21. Half of the senate (all odd-numbered seats) are up for election. Following the 2022 Kentucky Senate election, 2022 election, Republicans and Democrats held 31 and seven seats, respectively. The deadline for candidates to file was January 5, 2024. Kentucky Senate
The Kentucky Senate is the upper house of the Kentucky General Assembly. The Kentucky Senate is composed of 38 members elected from single-member districts throughout Kentucky, the Commonwealth. There are no term limits for Kentucky Senators. The Kentucky Senate meets at the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort, Kentucky, Frankfort annually beginning in January. Adrienne Southworth (born April 18, 1988) is an American politician from Kentucky. She is a Republican and represents District 7 in the State Senate. After Donald Trump lost the 2020 election and refused to concede, Southworth promoted falsehoods and conspiracy theories about election fraud, including an unsubstantiated claim that all presidential elections since Ronald Reagan’s victory in 1980, with the exception of Trump’s victory in 2016, have been rigged. David Yates (born June 3, 1980) is an American attorney and politician serving as a member of the Kentucky Senate from the 37th district. Elected in November 2020, he assumed office on January 1, 2021. Early life and education Yates was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Wheeler came into office during a Special Election on March 5, 2019, defeating Democrat Darrell Pugh. He assumed office on March 19, 2019. Wheeler was re-elected for a full term with 72.8% of the vote on November 3, 2020, defeating Democratic challenger Glenn Martin Hammond. Johnnie Lloyd Turner (born December 24, 1947) is an American attorney and politician serving as a member of the Kentucky Senate from the 29th district. Elected in November 2020, he assumed office on January 1, 2021. Early life and education Turner was born in Bledsoe, Kentucky, in 1947. A member of the Democratic Party, Thomas is a member of the Kentucky Senate and currently serves as the minority caucus chair. Thomas' election in 2012 marked the first time that two African Americans served in the Kentucky Senate concurrently.
