2022 Milwaukee Mayoral Special Election
The 2022 Milwaukee mayoral special election was held on April 5, 2022, to elect the mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While the next regularly-scheduled date for a Milwaukee mayoral election is in 2024, incumbent mayor Tom Barrett resigned to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg. The special election was the first open race for mayor of the city since 2004. Municipal elections in Wisconsin are nonpartisan. A nonpartisan primary election, which was held on February 15, determined which two candidates were listed on the general election ballot. Acting mayor Cavalier Johnson and alderman Bob Donovan advanced to the general election. Cavalier Johnson
Cavalier Johnson (born c. 1986) is an American politician and mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He recently served as Milwaukee Common Council president as well as Milwaukee's 2nd District alderman. In April 2022, Johnson won a special election, becoming the first African American elected mayor of Milwaukee; he is also the city's second African American Mayor. Early life and education Cavalier Johnson's father worked as a janitor for more than 30 years and his mother worked as a certified nursing assistant. He is one of 10 siblings. Christopher J. Larson (born November 12, 1980) is an American Democratic politician and a member of the Wisconsin Senate, representing southeast Milwaukee County since 2011. Evan Goyke (born November 24, 1982) is an American attorney and academic serving as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. He was first elected in 2012 as a Democrat, succeeding fellow Democrat Tamara Grigsby. His father is former state senator Gary Goyke. David Alexander Clarke, Jr., (born August 21, 1956) is an American former law enforcement official who served as Sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, from 2002 to 2017. In 2002, Clarke was appointed to the position by Republican Governor Scott McCallum and later elected that same year to his first four-year term. He was reelected in November 2006, 2010 and 2014. Although Clarke declared himself as a Democrat after his appointment as sheriff and ran as a Democrat in a heavily Democratic county, many of Clarke's political views align with those of conservative Republicans; he refused to join the Wisconsin Democratic Party, instead promoting conservative views, and allying himself with Republican officials. 2022 United States Senate Election In Wisconsin
The 2022 United States Senate election in Wisconsin was held on November 8, 2022, to elect a member of the United States Senate from Wisconsin. The party primaries were held on August 9, 2022. Incumbent Republican Senator Ron Johnson won re-election to a third term, defeating the Democratic nominee, Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes. In 2016, Johnson pledged to serve only two terms but reversed this decision in 2022. The race was one of the most competitive of the cycle, after considerable Democratic success in recent statewide elections: in 2018, when Democrats won every statewide contest on the ballot, including the state's other Senate seat; and 2020, in which Democrat Joe Biden narrowly carried the state. The Milwaukee County Executive serves as the chief executive officer of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Vested with veto power and appointing authority over department heads, the county executive oversees the administrative functions of county government and carries out ordinances passed by the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.
