2022 London Local Elections
The 2022 London local elections took place on 5 May 2022, as part of the 2022 United Kingdom local elections. All London borough councillor seats were up for election. Mayoral elections took place in London Borough of Hackney, Hackney, London Borough of Lewisham, Lewisham, London Borough of Newham, Newham and London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Tower Hamlets, with London Borough of Croydon, Croydon electing a mayor for the first time following a local referendum in October 2021. The election saw Labour gain majority control of Barnet London Borough Council, Barnet, Wandsworth London Borough Council, Wandsworth and Westminster City Council, Westminster councils whilst the Conservatives gained majority control of Harrow London Borough Council, Harrow Council and the Aspire (political party), Aspire Party gained control of Tower Hamlets Council, both from Labour. 2018 London Local Elections
The 2018 London local elections took place in London on 3 May 2018 as part of wider local elections in England. All London borough councillor seats were up for election. Elections to the Corporation of London were held in 2017. Mayoral contests were also held in Hackney, Lewisham, Newham and Tower Hamlets. The previous London borough elections were in 2014. The results saw the London Labour Party achieve their best result in over 45 years, winning 44% of the vote, 1,128 councillors and control of 21 councils. This represented the party's second-best result in a London local election, only surpassed slightly by its 1971 total. The Mayor of Croydon is a directly elected mayor responsible for the executive function of Croydon London Borough Council. The current mayor is Jason Perry of the Conservative Party, elected in May 2022, and the first holder of the post. Background The Local Government Act 2000 allowed local authorities to change from the leader-and-cabinet system of governance to a directly elected mayor model.
