2020 Pennsylvania Elections
A general election was held in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania on November 3, 2020. The office of the Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth oversees the election process, including voting and vote counting. To vote by mail, registered Pennsylvania voters had to request a ballot by October 27, 2020. As of early October some 2,568,084 voters requested mail ballots. Election law changes for 2020 On October 29, 2019, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed Act 77 by a vote of 138–61. Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District
Pennsylvania's fifth congressional district encompasses all of Delaware County, an exclave of Chester County, a small portion of southern Montgomery County and a section of southern Philadelphia. Democrat Mary Gay Scanlon represents the district. Prior to 2018, the fifth district was located in north-central Pennsylvania and was the largest in area, and therefore least densely populated, of all of Pennsylvania's congressional districts. Pennsylvania's fourth congressional district, effective January 3, 2023, encompasses the majority of Montgomery County and most of Berks County northeast of Reading in southeastern Pennsylvania. In the 2020 redistricting cycle, the Pennsylvania district pushed northwards, further into Berks County, effective with the 2022 elections. Dwight Evans (born May 16, 1954) is an American politician serving as a U.S. representative from Pennsylvania since 2016. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 203rd district for over thirty-five years.
