2020 GC32 Racing Tour
2020 is the seventh series of the GC32 Racing Tour. The season consists of five acts, returning to Villasimius, Riva del Garda, Lagos, and Muscat. The final venue of the series will be announced in due course. GC32 Racing Tour
GC32 Racing Tour is a southern European-centered sailing boat circuit for GC32 one design foiling catamarans. It attracts both private owner-driven teams and those that are commercially-backed. History The aim of the circuit is to provide the 'best foiling catamaran experience' for its participants. This includes visiting venues known to provide optimum wind conditions for foiling and race courses large enough to enable the boats to hit maximum speeds. The GC32 Racing Tour has several features in common with the 34th and 35th America's Cup in that it uses foiling catamarans and a similar race format which often includes reaching (rather than upwind) starts. The circuit comprises five events. At each event and for the overall championship, prizes are awarded for the overall winner as well as the top 'owner-driver'. GC32
The GC32 is a class of hydrofoiling catamaran, 32 feet in length (9.75 meters) and constructed of carbon fibre, with a top speed of about . They are sailed in the GC32 Racing Tour, and have replaced the Extreme 40's in the Extreme Sailing Series. History Conceived by Laurent Lenne, who was trained as a naval architect in Southampton, the GC32 was designed by Dr. Martin Fischer. Built from carbon fibre, the boat is manufactured in Dubai by Premier Composite Technologies and then marketed by Lenne's company, THE GREAT CUP BV. In 2013, the first version of the GC32 was built. In 2014, the second version of the Flying GC32 was ready by April 2014 and create the GC32Racing Tour in 2014. Alinghi
Alinghi, or Alinghi Red Bull Racing because of the sports marketing branding by Red Bull, is the syndicate set up by Ernesto Bertarelli, racing under the colors of the Société Nautique de Genève, to challenge for the America's Cup, as well as other competitions. Bertarelli had raced several smaller yachts named ''Alinghi'' previously, but 2003 was his first attempt at the America's Cup. Alinghi challenged for and won the 2003 America's Cup in Auckland New Zealand and successfully defended it at the 2007 America's Cup in Valencia, Spain. Alinghi lost the America's Cup to the Golden Gate Yacht Club and their team BMW Oracle Racing in a Deed of Gift match in Valencia, Spain in February 2010. Roman Hagara
Roman Hagara (born 30 April 1966) is an Austrian sailor who has won the gold medal in the Tornado class at two consecutive Olympic Games. Hagara, and his colleague Hans-Peter Steinacher won the gold medal in the Tornado class at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, and successfully defended their title at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, which, to date, makes them Austria's the most successful summer sport athletes as the first professional Austrian sailing team. Hagara was the Flagbearer for the Austrian team at the 2004 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony. Hans-Peter Steinacher (born 9 September 1968 in Zell am See) is an Austrian sailor and Olympic champion. He won a gold medal in the '' Tornado class'' with Roman Hagara at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. They won the gold medal again at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Along with his teammate Roman Hagara, he has won the Austrian Sports Personality of the Year twice, in 2000 and 2004.
