2020 English Open
The 2020 Matchroom.Live English Open was a professional snooker tournament that took place from 12 to 18 October 2020 at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, England. It was the second completed ranking event of the 2020–21 season, and the fifth edition of the English Open, first held in 2016. The event featured 123 professionals and 5 amateurs. On the first day of the event, two players withdrew from the event due to COVID-19 – Stuart Carrington tested positive, while Sam Craigie came into contact with Carrington. Snooker referee Andrew Barklam also tested positive. On the second day, two more players had to withdraw – Peter Lines, who tested positive, and his son, Oliver Lines, who came into contact with him. The defending champion was Mark Selby, who defeated David Gilbert 9–1 in the 2019 final. Selby lost 5–6 to Neil Robertson in the semi-finals. Oliver Lines
Oliver Lines (born 16 June 1995) is an English professional snooker player who practices at Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds. He is the son of professional snooker player Peter Lines. Career Amateur Lines switched sports from football to snooker at aged 14. His progression continued by entering into the Players Tour Championship events in 2011, but made little impact in the 2011/2012 season. 2012/2013 saw major improvement and a notable 4–3 over Joe Perry in 2012 UKPTC 3. Riley Parsons
Riley Parsons (born 5 May 2000) is an English former professional snooker player. Career As an amateur Parsons represented England at the 2018 EBSA European men's championship in Sofia Bulgaria. Parsons turned professional for the first time in 2019 after progressing from Q School Event Two in Wigan. The Englishman, who hails from Cannock, defeated Alexander Ursenbacher, Daniel Womersley, Chae Ross, Callum Lloyd and finally Peter Lines to earn a two-year tour card from the start of the 2019/20 World Snooker Tour. He was not able to win a match his whole first season on tour. However, Parsons did win his opening match for the 2020–21 season, with a 5–4 win over Soheil Vahedi at the 2020 European Masters. Joe Perry (snooker Player)
Joe Perry (born 13 August 1974) is an English professional snooker player from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. Often referred to as "the Fen Potter" and also nicknamed "the Gentleman", Perry climbed the rankings steadily after turning professional in 1992 and reached the Top 16 for the first time in 2002. His first ranking final came at the 2001 European Open and he had to wait another 13 years for a second which came at the 2014 Wuxi Classic. Liang Wenbo
Liang Wenbo (; born 25 March 1987) is a Chinese professional snooker player based at the Oracle Snooker Club, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England. Liang, who plays left-handed, has reached one Triple Crown final, made three Masters appearances, and won one ranking title at the inaugural English Open in 2016. He twice won the World Cup for China along with teammate Ding Junhui. Liang has made three maximum breaks in his career, and reached an all-time high of 11th in the world rankings. Jackson Page (born 8 August 2001 in Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent) is a Welsh professional snooker player. He is a former European U-21 champion and the former Under-18 World Snooker Champion and in 2017 also became the Under-18 European Snooker Champion. Martin O'Donnell (born 4 June 1986) is an English former professional snooker player. He gained a two-year place on the main snooker tour by coming through Q School in 2012. He practices at Shootpool & Snooker in Aylesbury. Career Early career As an amateur, O'Donnell played in all 12 of the Players Tour Championship events during the 2010/2011 season. Chang Bingyu
Chang Bingyu (; born 8 August 2002) is a Chinese professional snooker player. Chang is one of ten Chinese players currently suspended from the professional tour amid a match-fixing investigation. In January 2023, the WPBSA charged him with fixing a match. Following his suspension, Chang posted a message on Weibo, alleging that he had been threatened by his compatriot Liang Wenbo, who also faces match-fixing charges. Fan Zhengyi (, born 27 January 2001) is a Chinese professional snooker player. He won the IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship in 2017, and turned professional in 2018. He had a breakthrough season in 2021–22 when he reached his first ranking quarter-final at the 2022 German Masters and then won his first ranking title at the 2022 European Masters, defeating then six-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan 10–9 in the final. Home Nations Series
The Home Nations Series is a snooker tournament series in the four home nations of the United Kingdom. It began in the 2016–17 snooker season, combining two existing tournaments, the Scottish Open and Welsh Open, with two newly created tournaments, the English Open and Northern Ireland Open. History On 29 April 2015, Barry Hearn, chairman of World Snooker announced that from the 2016–17 snooker season, a "Home Nations Series" would be added to the season's calendar. The Home Nations Series includes the tournaments of the four individual countries of the home of snooker, the English Open, the Northern Ireland Open, the Scottish Open, and the Welsh Open.
