2019 CrossFit Games
The 2019 CrossFit Games was the 13th iteration of the annual competition in the sport CrossFit Games, CrossFit held from August 1–4, 2019, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. The men's competition was won by Mat Fraser (athlete), Mat Fraser, the women's by Tia-Clair Toomey, and CrossFit Mayhem, CrossFit Mayhem Freedom won the Team competition, all of whom also won the 2018 games. The 2019 Games operated under a new set of qualification rules this year, allowing athletes to qualify for the Games via three different methods: the Open, the Sanctionals and invitations, replacing the Regionals of previous seasons. It was also the first year to allow a team to be composed of members who did not share a gym affiliation, thereby removing the Affiliate Cup. This year the Games was not broadcast on ESPN or CBS, but rather streamed online by various partners using an open-source broadcast. Alliant Energy Center
Alliant Energy Center is a multi-building complex located in Madison, Wisconsin. It comprises of greenspace and includes the Exhibition Hall, the 10,000-seat Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the Willow Island, several multi-use pavilions, and the Arena. The Center welcomes more than one million people attending more than 500 events annually, ranging from local meetings and banquets to large sporting events and major concerts. Ben Smith (CrossFit)
Ben Smith (born May 16, 1990) is a professional CrossFit athlete from Virginia, United States. He has competed at the CrossFit Games every year from 2009 to 2019, finishing on the podium four times: first place in 2015, second in 2016, and third in 2011 and 2013. He is the first competitor to make ten consecutive appearances in the Individual Division at the CrossFit Games. He was able to extend the streak to 11 years following the adjusted qualification rules for the 2019 CrossFit Games that gave him wildcard invitation. Smith was a baseball player throughout childhood and was introduced to CrossFit during his senior year of high school in 2008 and qualified for the CrossFit Games the next year. Rogue Invitational
The Rogue Invitational is an annual sporting event that includes a CrossFit competition and a Strongman competition. The event, organized by Rogue, started in 2019 as a CrossFit sanctioned competition, but has since become a major competition for CrossFit athletes. A contest for strongmen that featured the largest prize purse in strongman competition was added in 2021, and an additional one for strongwomen in 2024.
