2018 Nevada Attorney General Election
The 2018 Nevada Attorney General election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the attorney general of Nevada. Incumbent Republican Attorney General Adam Laxalt did not run for re-election to a second term and instead ran unsuccessfully for governor. Nevada Senate Majority Leader Aaron Ford won the Democratic nomination and defeated Republican nominee and former Nevada Assembly member Wesley Duncan in the general election. With a margin of 0.4%, this was the closest attorney general race of the 2018 election cycle. Republican primary Duncan won the Republican primary, defeating attorney Craig Mueller. None Of These Candidates
"None of These Candidates" is a voting option in Nevada for all statewide and presidential and vice-presidential election ballots. This option is listed along with the names of individuals running for the position and is often described as "none of the above". The option first appeared on the Nevada ballot in 1975. If the "None of These Candidates" option receives the most votes in an election, then the actual candidate who receives the most votes still wins the election. This has most notably happened on two occasions: in the 1976 Republican primary for Nevada's At-large congressional district, None of These Candidates received 16,097 votes, while Walden Earhart won 9,831 votes, followed by Dart Anthony with 8,097 votes. The Nevada Assembly is the lower house of the Nevada Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Nevada, the upper house being the Nevada Senate. The body consists of 42 members, elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Each district contained approximately 64,299 people as of the 2010 United States Census. The Nevada Senate is the upper house of the Nevada Legislature, the state legislature of U.S. state of Nevada, the lower house being the Nevada Assembly. It currently (2012–2021) consists of 21 members from single-member districts. In the previous redistricting (2002–2011) there were 19 districts, two of which were multimember. Wesley Karl Duncan (born December 26, 1980) is a Nevada attorney, member of the Air Force reserve, and prosecutor. He served as First Assistant Attorney General of Nevada from 2014 to September 2017 and as a Republican member of the Nevada Assembly from 2013 to 2014. In 2018, Duncan ran to be the Attorney General of Nevada, losing to Nevada Senate Democratic Leader Aaron Ford. Duncan was employed as a Washoe County Deputy District Attorney until October 2020. 2018 Nevada Gubernatorial Election
The 2018 Nevada gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next governor of Nevada. Incumbent Republican Governor Brian Sandoval was ineligible to run for re-election, due to the absolute two-term limit established by the Nevada Constitution. Nevada is one of eight U.S. states (or nine U.S. states and territory) that prohibits its governors or any other state and territorial executive branch officials from serving more than two terms, even if they are nonconsecutive. The candidate filing deadline was March 16, 2018 and the primary election was held on June 12, 2018. The Republican nominee was Adam Laxalt and the Democratic nominee was Steve Sisolak. Sisolak won the election, becoming the first Democrat to be elected Governor of Nevada since Bob Miller won his second full term in 1994, and the first non-incumbent Democrat to win since 1982.
