2018 NPF Draft
The 2018 NPF College Draft was the 15th annual collegiate draft for the National Pro Fastpitch. It took place April 23, 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee at Acme Feed & Seed, a downtown entertainment venue. It was available for internet viewing via NPFTV, the league's streaming platform. The first selection was Paige Lowary of Oklahoma, picked by the Chicago Bandits. The Draft Drafting an athlete gives an NPF affiliate team the rights to that athlete for two full seasons. Softball
Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Softball is played competitively at club levels, the college level, and the professional level. The game was first created in 1887 in Chicago by George Hancock. There are two rule sets for softball generally: ''slow pitch softball'' and '' fastpitch''. Slow pitch softball is commonly played recreationally, while women's fastpitch softball is a Summer Olympic sport and is played professionally. Depending on the variety being played and the age and gender of the players, the particulars of field and equipment vary. While distances between bases of 60 feet are standard across varieties, the pitcher's plate ranges from 35 to 43 feet away from home plate, and the home run fence can be 220 to 300 feet away from home plate. Gwen Svekis (born June 1, 1996) is an American softball player for the Chicago Bandits. Career She attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She later attended the University of Oregon, where she was an All-American catcher and NFCA Catcher of the Year for the Oregon Ducks softball team. Svekis led the Ducks to three Women's College World Series appearances in 2015, 2017 and 2018. She later went on to play professional softball with the Chicago Bandits of National Pro Fastpitch. Brittany Gray (born July 25, 1995) is an American softball coach and former player. She attended Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Indiana. She later attended the University of Georgia, where she was an All-American pitcher for the Georgia Bulldogs softball team. Gray led the Bulldogs to the 2016 Women's College World Series second round, where they fell to LSU, 4–1. Gray suffered a season ending arm injury in her senior season, forcing her to miss Georgia's run to the 2018 Women's College World Series. Aleshia Ocasio (born August 15, 1996) is a professional American softball player. She played college softball at Florida. Ocasio most recently played in the Athletes Unlimited Softball, where she won the 2021 championship as the top individual points leader.
