2016–17 Liga Meo Azores
The 2016–17 Liga Meo Azores was the fourth edition of the Liga Meo Azores, the highest level football competition for non-professional teams in the Azores and the fifth level of the Portuguese football league system. In total, 10 teams from five of the nine islands took part in the competition. The league began with the first round of matches in the regular phase on 1 October 2016 and concluded with the final round of matches in the championship and relegation phases on 14 May 2017. Sporting Guadalupe won the league for the first time and were promoted to the Campeonato de Portugal. Liga Meo Azores
The Liga Meo Açores is a Portuguese non-professional league for association football clubs from Azores. It belongs to the 5th tier of the Portuguese football league system The Portuguese football league system consists of several leagues bound together hierarchically by promotion and relegation. Reserve teams are allowed to compete in the main league system, as is the case with most of Europe. However, they are not ... with the Liga 3 creation, with promotion to the 4th Tier ( Campeonato de Portugal) and relegation to the 6th Tier (Regional championships from Ponta Delgada FA, Angra do Heroísmo FA and Horta FA). Current format The league consists in ten teams playing a round robin as a regular season. After that teams 1 to 5 play a championship group, teams 6 to 10 play a relegation group. São Miguel Island
São Miguel Island (; ), nicknamed "The Green Island" (), is the largest and most populous island in the Portugal, Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. Faial Island
Faial Island (), also known as Fayal Island, is a Portugal, Portuguese island of the Central Group or ''Grupo Central'' of the Azores, in the Atlantic Ocean. The Capelinhos volcano is the westernmost point of the island and is considered the westernmost point of Europe other than the Monchique Islet. Pico Island
Pico Island (''Ilha do Pico,'' ) is an island in the Central Group, Azores, Central Group of the Portugal, Portuguese Azores. The landscape features an eponymous volcano, Mount Pico, Ponta do Pico, which is the highest mountain in Portugal, the Azores, and the highest elevation of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Graciosa Island () (literally "graceful" or "enchanting" in Portuguese), also referred to as the ''White Island'', is a volcanic island in the Atlantic Ocean. Clube União Micaelense ''(known as CU Micaelense or U. Micaelense),'' is a Portuguese football club based in Ponta Delgada, Azores on the island of São Miguel in the Azores. Background CU Micaelense currently plays in the AF Ponta Delgada 1ª Divisão (known as the Campeonato de S. Miguel) which is the fifth tier of Portuguese football. The club was founded in 1911 and they currently play their home matches at the Campo Municipal Jâcome Correia in Ponta Delgada. The stadium is able to accommodate 1,500 spectators.
