2016 Dubai Tour
The 2016 Dubai Tour was a road bicycle racing, road cycling stage race that took place in Dubai between 3 and 6 February 2016. It was the third edition of the Dubai Tour and was rated as a 2.HC event as part of the 2016 UCI Asia Tour. The race was made up of four stages. Three of these were suited for sprinter (cycling), sprinters, with the third stage ending with an uphill finish to the Hatta Dam. The defending champion was Mark Cavendish, who won the 2015 Dubai Tour for but was riding for his new team, . Marcel Kittel () won the first stage to take the lead of the race. Elia Viviani () won the second stage and took over the race lead. The Hatta Dam stage was won by Juan José Lobato (), with Giacomo Nizzolo ( taking the overall lead of the race. The 2016 UCI Asia Tour was the 12th season of the UCI Asia Tour. The season began on 20 February 2016 with the Le Tour de Filipinas and ended on 2 October 2016 with the Tour of Almaty. The points leader, based on the cumulative results of previous races, wears the UCI Asia Tour cycling jersey. Christopher Ryan Opie (born 22 July 1987) is a British cyclist. Outside of racing, Opie has been a contributor and presenter for the Global Cycling Network. Career Born in Truro, Cornwall, Opie grew up on a small beef and dairy farm. He attended Kea Primary and Penair Secondary Schools in Truro. He began cycling competitively at the age of 10 and progressed to lead the British National Junior RR Series in 2005. In 2006, Opie raced in France for UC Aubenas and he battled with a slight eating disorder and, in 2007, with Glandular Fever, but returned to racing in 2008, when he was based in the Netherlands and Belgium. The Palm Jumeirah is an archipelago of artificial islands on the Persian Gulf in Jumeirah, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
