2015–16 NAHL Season
The 2015–16 NAHL season was the 32nd season of the North American Hockey League. The regular season ran from September 2015 to April 2016 with a 60-game schedule for each team. The Fairbanks Ice Dogs won the regular season championship and went on to defeat the Wichita Falls Wildcats 2–0 in the championship game to captured the Robertson Cup. Member changes * After the NAHL assumed control of the Keystone Ice Miners in the middle of the previous season, the franchise was suspended at the conclusion of the year. * In early March, the Michigan Warriors announced that they would be relocating after their lease with the Perani Arena and Event Center would not be renewed for this season. North American Hockey League
The North American Hockey League (NAHL) is one of the top junior hockey leagues in the United States and is in its 50th season of operation in 2024–25. It is the only Tier II junior league sanctioned by USA Hockey, and acts as an alternative for those who would not or did not make the roster of a team in the Major Junior Canadian Hockey League (CHL) nor Tier I United States Hockey League (USHL). The NAHL is one of the oldest junior hockey leagues in the United States and is headquartered in Addison, Texas. The teams span the United States from Maine in the East to Alaska in the Northwest and to Texas in the South. The teams play a 59-game regular season, usually starting on the 2nd weekend in September and ending near mid-April (2020–21 season is exception, the season started in late 2020-early 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (NAHL)
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees were a Tier II Junior A ice hockey team playing in the North American Hockey League. The team was based in the Rio Grande Valley in Hidalgo, Texas, just south of McAllen, and played their home games at State Farm Arena. History The original team was a member of the Central Hockey League, a professional minor league, from 2003 to 2012. On June 20, 2012, multiple sources confirmed that the Killer Bees would not play in the 2012–13 season and ceased operations due to increased travel costs after the folding of the other Texas CHL teams in Austin, Corpus Christi and Laredo. After a season without a team, the Wenatchee Wild of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), a Tier II Junior A hockey league, relocated to Hidalgo, Texas and became the second incarnation of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Minnesota Wilderness
The Minnesota Wilderness are a junior ice hockey#Tier II, Tier II junior ice hockey team based in Cloquet, Minnesota, and play in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). The organization formerly fielded teams in the Canada-based Junior ice hockey#Junior A, Junior A Superior International Junior Hockey League for three seasons and in the American-based Junior ice hockey#Tier III, Tier III Minnesota Junior Hockey League. Prior to the 2013–14 season, the Wilderness' owners bought the franchise rights to the St. Louis Bandits of the Tier II North American Hockey League, and began play for that season. In 2024, the Minnesota Loons of the NA3HL were sold and moved from Breezy Point, Minnesota to Eveleth, Minnesota and renamed to the Minnesota Wilderness, putting them under the same umbrella as the NAHL's Minnesota Wilderness. Janesville Jets
The Janesville Jets are a Tier II junior ice hockey team in the North American Hockey League. Based in Janesville, Wisconsin, their home games are played at the Janesville Ice Arena. Beginning in 2025, the Jets will play at the new 1,500-seat Woodman's Center currently under construction. History The Jets name was chosen by a name-the-team contest. Choices were ''Jackals'', ''Jaguars'', ''Jayhawks'', ''Jets'', and ''Juggernauts'', having been whittled down from over 200 original submissions. The Jets name and logo were announced on June 5, 2009, with "Jets" taking 35% of the vote. Johnstown Tomahawks
The Johnstown Tomahawks are a junior ice hockey#Tier II, Tier II junior ice hockey team in the North American Hockey League's East Division. The team plays its home games at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena, 1st Summit Bank Arena at Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. It is the oldest extant franchise in the NAHL. History In 2012, the Alaska Avalanche relocated to Johnstown, Pennsylvania, taking the place of the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs, who moved to Greenville, South Carolina the year before. Aberdeen Wings
The Aberdeen Wings are a Tier II junior ice hockey team based out of Aberdeen, South Dakota, that began play for 2010–11. A member of the North American Hockey League in the Central Division, the Wings play their home games in the Odde Ice Center. History Since the team's inaugural season in 2010–11, the Wings have held the highest attendance numbers in their NAHL division, boasting crowds over 1,700. The Bismarck Bobcats are a junior ice hockey#Tier II, Tier II junior ice hockey team in the North American Hockey League's (NAHL) Central Division, and play out of Bismarck, North Dakota, in the V.F.W.
