The 2015 Latvian First League (referred to as the komanda.lv Pirmā līga for sponsorship reasons) started on 29 March 2015 and ended on 7 November 2015. Latvian First League
The Latvian First League ( lv, Latvijas Pirmā līga, 1. līga) is the second tier of football in Latvia and is organised by the Latvian Football Federation. History The league was founded together with other Latvian football competitions in 1992. From 2007 to 2008, the tournament was known as the Traffic 1. līga, due to its first sponsorship deal concluded with the "Traffic auto advert" advertising company. From 2015 its name was Komanda.lv First League (''Komanda.lv 1. līga'') for sponsorship reasons, after thKomanda.lvsporting goods store became the league's main sponsor in 2015. Format There are 15 clubs in the First League. During the course of the season each club plays the every other club twice, once at home and once away, with a total of 28 games. At the end of the season, the highest placed club is automatically promoted to the Virslīga. Riga District ( lv, Rīgas rajons) was an administrative division of Latvia, located in Semigallia and Vidzeme regions, in the centre of the country. The district had the two cities of Riga and Jūrmala with the Gulf of Riga to the north. Beginning from the west and counterclockwise to the east, Riga District had Tukums, Jelgava, Bauska, Ogre, Cēsis and Limbaži former districts as neighbours. Futbola klubs 1625 Liepāja, previously SFK Varavīksne ( en, SFC Rainbow), was a football club based in Liepāja that last played in Latvian football's second tier, the First League. History The club was founded on December 14, 1999 as SFK Varavīksne and until 2010 played in the Second League. Informally, the football team had existed since 1997. In 2010, Varavīksne won the Second League and were promoted to the First League. SFK Varavīksne was renamed FK 1625 Liepāja in February 2014. In 1625, Liepāja was awarded town rights. Due to financial difficulties and citing a lack of support from the municipality (which it disputed), the club was dissolved before the 2016 season. As late as 2021, a team of the same name (albeit with a different crest) played in regional mini football tournaments. FK Rīgas Futbola Skola
FK RFS is a professional Latvian football club based in Riga, Latvia. It competes in the Virslīga, the top flight of Latvian football. History RFS were promoted to the Virsliga for 2016 when Skonto FC failed to obtain a license. In 2018, RFS qualified for the UEFA Europa League qualifiers for the first time. In 2019, the club achieved its first-ever honour, the Latvian Cup. It wasn't until 2021–22 that RFS won a European two-legged tie, beating Faroese club KÍ Klaksvík. They went on to beat Hungarian side Puskás Akadémia FC before losing to Belgian club Gent. Later that year, RFS won their first Virsliga and would thus compete in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. Valmiera Football Club or shortly Valmiera FC is a Latvian football club, playing in the Virslīga, the highest division of Latvian football. The club is based in the city of Valmiera. By winning the 2017 Latvian First League, the team was promoted to the 2018 Virslīga after a 14-year absence, and won their first title in 2022 Virslīga.
