The 2014 NFL season, 2014 season was the Cleveland Browns' 62nd in the National Football League (NFL), their 66th overall, and their first under new List of Cleveland Browns head coaches, head coach Mike Pettine and general manager Ray Farmer. The Browns improved upon their 4–12 record from 2013 Cleveland Browns season, 2013, finishing 7–9. The team started the season 6–3 with sole possession of the AFC North lead, but lost six of their last seven games to finish 7–9 and fail to make the playoffs for the 12th consecutive year, the longest List of NFL franchise post-season droughts, postseason drought in franchise history. This also marked the Browns' seventh consecutive season with a losing record. Mike Pettine
Michael Mark Pettine (born September 25, 1966) is an American football coach who is the assistant head coach and outside linebackers coach for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). He was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2014 to 2015, and has also served as the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and Green Bay Packers. Playing career Pettine earned all-state honors as a quarterback and defensive back at Central Bucks High School West. The head coach was his father, Mike Pettine Sr., who is renowned in Pennsylvania for compiling a record of 326–42–4 in 33 seasons and winning four state championships. Norval Eugene Turner (born May 17, 1952) is an American football coach who is a senior advisor for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). An offensive assistant for the majority of his coaching career, Turner was the Dallas Cowboys' offensive coordinator during their consecutive Super Bowl victories in Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXVIII, both over the Buffalo Bills. Michael Edward Shanahan ( ; born August 24, 1952) is an American football coach, best known as the head coach of the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL) from 1995 to 2008.
