The 2012–13 2. Basketball Bundesliga, ProA was the 6th season of the 2. Basketball Bundesliga, ProA, the second level of basketball in Germany. Science City Jena
Science City Jena is a basketball club based in Jena, Germany that plays in the ProA. Their home court is the Sparkassen Arena, which seats 3,000. Their current head coach is Björn Harmsen. The team was known as Erdgas Baskets Jena through the 2006 season, then as POM Baskets Jena, then Science City Jena in 2007. After being renamed to Medipolis SC Jena in 2021 due to sponsoring reasons, the name Science City Jena was again used from the 2024/25 season on. In the 2015–16 season, they won their first ProA title and promoted to the Bundesliga. History Although never a big sport in the former East Germany, basketball was played in Jena since the 1960s. Zamal Nixon (born January 7, 1989) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Science City Jena of the German ProA. After a successful four years at the Houston Cougars men's basketball, University of Houston, Nixon entered the 2011 NBA draft but was not selected in the draft's two rounds. High school career Nixon played high school basketball at Boys & Girls High School, in Brooklyn, New York. College career Nixon played college basketball for the Houston Cougars men's basketball, Houston Cougars from 2007 to 2011. Crailsheim Merlins, currently referred to as Hakro Merlins Crailsheim for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in Crailsheim, Germany. Established in 1986, the club plays in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the highest professional league in Germany. The club is a part of the multi-sports club TSV Crailsheim. Home games are played in the Arena Hohenlohe, which has a capacity of 3,000 people. History The club was founded on 31 January 1986 by a group of students. Until 1994, the team was only active at the lower local leagues and had problems in finding a hall to play at.
