2012 Tour Of Oman
The 2012 Tour of Oman was the third edition of the Tour of Oman cycling stage race. It was rated as a 2.1 event on the UCI Asia Tour, and was held from 14 to 19 February 2012, in Oman. The race was won by Slovakia's Peter Velits, of the team, taking the race lead on the penultimate day and holding it to the finish. Velits' winning margin over runner-up Vincenzo Nibali () – winner of the race's queen stage to Jabal al Akhdar – was just one second, after Nibali tried to gain bonus seconds at one of the final day's intermediate sprints but could not gain time. The final place on the podium went to 's Tony Gallopin, sixteen seconds behind Nibali and 17 seconds down on Velits. Peter Velits
Peter Velits (born 21 February 1985 in Bratislava) is a Slovakian former professional road racing cyclist. His career highlights included third place overall and a stage win at the 2010 Vuelta a España, the 2007 World Under-23 Road Race Championships gold and the 2012 Tour of Oman overall victory. Velits was also known as strong time-trialist, winning three consecutive team time trials as a part of in 2012 and 2013 and riding on the in 2014 UCI Road World Championships. His twin brother, Martin Velits also competed professionally, having raced on the same teams every year until the end of the 2013 season. After two seasons with the team, Velits left at the end of the 2013 season to join the . He remained with the team until he retired at the end of the 2016 season. Matthew Harley Goss (born 5 November 1986) is a former Australian professional road and track racing cyclist, his final professional team before retirement was the UCI Professional Continental team . He first competed in track cycling before making a transition to the road. Daniel Oss (born 13 January 1987) is an Italian cyclist, who competes in gravel cycling for the Specialized Gravel team. Nacer Bouhanni (born 25 July 1990) is a French former professional racing cyclist, who competed as a professional from 2011 to 2023. Denis Ramilyevich Galimzyanov (, ; born 7 March 1987 in Yekaterinburg, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union) is a former Russian racing cyclist, who last rode for UCI ProTeam . He obtained a major victory in the classic Paris–Brussels in 2011, where he imposed himself in a massive sprint after 218.5 kilometers of racing. André Greipel (born 16 July 1982) is a German cyclist, who rode professionally in road bicycle racing between 2005 and 2021.
