2012 FA Community Shield
The 2012 FA Community Shield (also known as The FA Community Shield sponsored by McDonald's for sponsorship reasons) was the 90th FA Community Shield, a Association football, football match played on 12 August 2012 between the winners of the previous season's 2011–12 Premier League, Premier League and 2011–12 FA Cup, FA Cup competitions. The match was contested by the 2012 FA Cup Final, 2012 FA Cup winners, Chelsea F.C., Chelsea, and the champions of the 2011–12 Premier League, Manchester City F.C., Manchester City. The 2012 Community Shield was not played at its usual venue, Wembley Stadium, as the stadium hosted the final of the Football at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2012 Olympic football tournament on the same weekend as the proposed date for the Community Shield. Football At The 2012 Summer Olympics
The association football tournament at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held from 25 July to 11 August, and was the only sport to begin before the official opening day of the Olympic Games, two days before the opening ceremony. It was also the only sport to be held at multiple venues outside London (the host city of the Olympics), with Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle, Coventry and Cardiff all hosting matches. The finals were played at Wembley Stadium. Associations affiliated with FIFA were invited to send their senior women's and men's under-23 national teams to participate; men's teams were allowed to augment their squads with three players over the age of 23. 1972 FA Charity Shield
The 1972 FA Charity Shield was contested between Manchester City and Aston Villa. Normally, the Charity Shield would have been contested by the First Division champions and FA Cup holders, who were Derby County and Leeds United respectively, but both declined the chance to play in the Charity Shield. Instead, Manchester City, who had finished in fourth place in the First Division; and Aston Villa, who finished as Third Division champions accepted the invitation to play.
