2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship
The 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship Presented by Honda was the scheduled final race of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series. It was to be run at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 16, 2011, and was scheduled for 200 laps around the facility's 1.544 mile oval. The race was red flagged after 12 laps had been run due to a massive 15-car crash, which resulted in the death of former IndyCar Series champion Dan Wheldon and injuries for drivers Will Power, Pippa Mann and J. R. Hildebrand. Contact between drivers Wade Cunningham and James Hinchcliffe triggered a chain of incidents in a cluttered 34-car field, with Wheldon and two other drivers getting airborne due to contact with slowing vehicles. IZOD IndyCar World Championships
The IZOD IndyCar World Championship Presented by Honda was an IndyCar Series race on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, held from 1996 to 2000, and again in 2011. It was first known as the Las Vegas 500k. George Dario Marino Franchitti (born 19 May 1973) is a British motorsport commentator and retired motor racing driver from Scotland. Franchitti won the IndyCar Series Drivers' Championship in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011; the Indianapolis 500 in 2007, 2010 and 2012; and the 2008 24 Hours of Daytona driving for Andretti Green Racing (AGR) and later Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR). Champ Car World Series (CCWS) was the series sanctioned by Open-Wheel Racing Series Inc., a Governing body, sanctioning body for American open-wheel car racing that operated from 2004 to 2008. It was the successor to Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART), which sanctioned open-wheel racing from 1979 until dissolving after the 2003 season. Vehicles Champ Cars were single-seat, open-wheel racing cars, with Mid-engine design, mid-mounted engines. Champ cars had sculpted undersides to create ground effect in cars, ground effect and prominent wings to create downforce. The 2017 Rainguard Water Sealers 600 was the ninth round of the 2017 IndyCar Series season, contested over 248 laps at the 1.5-mile (2.4 km) Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. The 2015 MAVTV 500 IndyCar race was an open-wheel motorsport event held on June 27, 2015, at the oval course at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. It marked the 11th round of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season and unlike the previous season, was not the championship's final race of the season. The race featured an IndyCar Series record 80 lead changes. The race was the first race since the 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship to feature pack-style racing, although race-winner Graham Rahal disputed that it should be considered a pack race because the cars were able to run in different lanes.
