2011 Chicago Red Stars Season
The 2011 Chicago Red Stars season is the third season of the soccer club, and the only season it competed in Women's Premier Soccer League. Major events After the 2010 season the Red Stars could not come up with the security bond for the WPS league on April 7, 2011 the CRS informed its fans that they would not able to return for the 2011 WPS season. To continue the brand name the team dropped down one level to the WPSL to continue playing for the 2011 season with hope of returning to WPS in 2012. Chicago Red Stars
The Chicago Red Stars are a professional women's soccer club based in Bridgeview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. A founding member of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league, they have played in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) since 2013. WPS was the NWSL's predecessor as the professional women's soccer league in the United States, and the Red Stars played in the WPS in 2009 and 2010. After leaving the WPS in December 2010 due to the league's financial issues, the club joined the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) for the 2011 season. In 2012, the Red Stars co-founded and played in Women's Premier Soccer League Elite (WPSL-E): a one-year league which bridged the WPS and the NWSL. Shannon Marie DeVoe (née McDonnell; born 28 September 1984) is a former soccer midfielder, who represented the Republic of Ireland women's national football team. On the club level she most recently played for Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) club Chicago Red Stars, having previously played in the W-League with Windy City Bluez and Chicago Gaels. College career DeVoe attended Carl Sandburg High School then spent four years at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, playing varsity soccer as well as studying speech and hearing sciences. Kathryn Michele Markgraf (; born August 23, 1976) is the General Manager of the United States women's national soccer team and a retired American professional soccer defender. She previously played for the Chicago Red Stars in the WPS, the Boston Breakers in the WUSA, and the United States women's national soccer team. Klein is a former member of the United States women's national under-23 soccer team and a WPS All-Star in 2009. Playing career Youth Club Klein played for Laguna Hills Eclipse.
