2008 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, and the Bangladesh Awami League Party, led by Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh Awami League Party formed a fourteen-party Grand Alliance (Bangladesh), Grand Alliance including Hussain Muhammad Ershad, Ershad's Jatiya Party (Ershad), Jatiya Party, while the BNP formed a four-party alliance which included the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami. The election was originally scheduled for January 2007, but it was postponed by a military-controlled caretaker government for an extended period of time. The elections resulted in a landslide victory for the Awami League-led grand alliance, which won 263 seats of the 300 directly elected seats. Jatiya Sangsad
The Jatiya Sangsad (), often simply referred to as Sangsad and also known as is the unicameral Legislature, legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called Member of Parliament (Bangladesh), members of Parliament, or MPs. The 2024 Bangladeshi general election, 12th national parliamentary election was held on 7 January 2024. Elections to the body are held every five years, unless a parliament is dissolved earlier by the President of Bangladesh. Jatiya Party (Ershad)
The Jatiya Party (, ; JaPa or JP(E)) is a political party of Bangladesh. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of opposition. Fazle Hossain Badsha
Khandaker Fazle Hossain Badsha (born 15 October 1952), commonly known as Fazle Hossain Badsha or simply Fazle Badsha is a Bangladeshi politician. He has served three terms as a member of the Jatiyo Sangsad since 2008, representing Rajshahi-2 for the Workers Party of Bangladesh. Career Basha was first elected to parliament in 2008 using the boat symbol of the Awami League from Rajshahi-2. He received 116,599 votes while his closest opponent, Mizanur Rahman Minu of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, received 89,050 votes. Rashed Khan Menon
Rashed Khan Menon (born 18 May 1943) is a Bangladeshi politician. He is the president of Workers Party of Bangladesh and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Barisal-2, Dhaka-8 and Bakerganj-9 constituencies. He was the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Education. Earlier, he served as the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism. Early life Menon was born in Faridpur. He studied at Dhaka Collegiate School, finish in 1958. In 1960, he passed intermediate in arts group from Dhaka College. He graduated from Dhaka University in 1963 with a degree in economics.
