2007 Italian Open (tennis)
The 2007 Italian Open (also known for 2007 Rome Masters and the sponsored name 2007 Internazionali BNL d'Italia) was the 2007 edition of the Italian Open tennis tournament. The men's tournament was part of the 2007 ATP Masters Series and was held from 5 May until 13 May 2007. The women's event was a 2007 WTA Tier I Series event and was held from 13 May until 20 May 2007. Rafael Nadal was crowned champion for a record third consecutive year, and equalled Thomas Muster's overall record of three wins. Filippo Volandri, conqueror of Roger Federer, became the first Italian man to reach the semi-final stage since 1978, leaving Mara Santangelo as the only Italian among the winners for this year, triumphing in the women's doubles along with Nathalie Dechy of France. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis is played. Filippo Volandri
Filippo Volandri (; born 5 September 1981) is an Italian tennis coach and former professional player. Volandri reached a career-high singles ranking of world no. 25 in July 2007. He turned professional in 1997 and earned almost $4 million in prize money. Retired in 2017, the following year he became coach and since 2021 he has been the captain of the Italian team, which he led to the win of two consecutive Davis Cups in 2023 and 2024. 2007 WTA Tour
The 2007 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour was the elite professional tennis circuit organized by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for the 2007 tennis season. The calendar comprises the Grand Slam tournaments (supervised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF)), the WTA Tier I-IV Events, the Fed Cup (organized by the ITF) and the year-end championships. Tathiana Garbin (; born 30 June 1977) is an Italian retired tennis player. Michael Carl Bryan (born April 29, 1978) is an American former professional tennis player. Widely regarded as one of the greatest doubles tennis players of all time, Bryan was ranked as the world No. 1 in men's doubles for a record 506 weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 a record ten times.
