2006 Allan Cup
The 2006 Allan Cup was the Canadian senior ice hockey championship for the 2005–06 senior "AAA" season. The event was hosted by the Powell River Regals in Powell River, British Columbia. The 2006 tournament marked the 98th year that the Allan Cup has been awarded. Allan Cup
The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the senior ice hockey champions of Canada. It was donated by Sir Montagu Allan of Ravenscrag, Montreal, and has been competed for since 1909. It was most recently won by the Wentworth Gryphins in 2025. History In 1908, a split occurred in the competition of ice hockey in Canada. The top amateur teams left the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association, which allowed professionals, to form the new Inter-Provincial Amateur Hockey Union (IPAHU), a purely amateur league. The trustees of the Stanley Cup decided that the Cup would be awarded to the professional ice champion, meaning there was no corresponding trophy for the amateur championship of Canada. Senior Ice Hockey
Senior hockey refers to amateur or semi-professional ice hockey competition. There are no age restrictions for Senior players, who typically consist of those whose junior ice hockey, Junior eligibility has expired. Senior hockey leagues operate under the jurisdiction of Hockey Canada or USA Hockey. They are not affiliated in any way with professional hockey leagues. Many former professional players play Senior hockey after their pro careers are over. The top Senior teams in Canada (Senior AAA) compete annually for the Allan Cup. Powell River Regals
The Powell River Regals are a Canadian Senior AA ice hockey team from Powell River, British Columbia. The Regals played an independent schedule under the supervision of BC Hockey, also known as the BC Amateur Hockey Association. Prior to the 2015–16 season, when the team temporarily ceased operation, the Regals competed as a Senior AAA team, winning the BC Senior AAA Savage Cup 14 times between 1994–95 and 2014–15, and were three-time Allan Cup National Senior AAA Champions and one-time Hardy Cup National Intermediate "A" Champions. Weyburn is the tenth-largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada. The city has a population of 11,019. It is on the Souris River southeast of the provincial capital of Regina and is north from the North Dakota border in the United States. Whitby Dunlops
The Whitby Dunlops were a Canadian senior ice hockey team in the Allan Cup Hockey league. The team began play in 2004, and is on a leave of absence as of the 2020–21 season. Two previous teams have also played as the Whitby Dunlops. The first played in the OHA Senior A League from 1954 to 1960, winners of the 1958 World Ice Hockey Championships.
