2002 Northern Ford Premiership
The 2002 Northern Ford Premiership season was the second tier of British rugby league during the 2002 season. The competition began with nineteen teams, but York Wasps folded early in the season. Huddersfield Giants winning the Grand Final. This was the last season of the Premiership as for 2003 the teams were split into two divisions of the National League. Championship The league was won by the Huddersfield Giants, who beat the Leigh Centurions in the Grand Final. Huddersfield Giants were promoted to the Super League. Rugby Football League Championship Second Division
The Rugby Football League Championship Second Division was founded in 1902 and was the second tier of professional rugby league in the UK until 2003. During the 1990s a third division was established and there is automatic promotion between the second and third division. History The Second Division was formed in 1902 by splitting the RFL Championship into two divisions of 18. After three seasons the Second Division was abolished and not resurrected until 1962. Two seasons later in 1964 the Second Division was scrapped for the second time. The division was resurrected again in 1973 and has been played every season since. During the 1991-92 season, a third division was established and, for the first time, two teams were relegated. There was no regular relegation from the Second Division until 2003. Sheffield Eagles
The Sheffield Eagles are a professional rugby league club that play in the Betfred Championship. The club play their home games at the Olympic Legacy Park (OLP) on the former site of Don Valley Stadium, their former ground. The original club was formed in 1984 and formerly competed in the Super League. The new, current club was formed in 2000 following a merger of the old club with Huddersfield Giants. Steve McNamara (born 18 September 1971) is an English professional rugby league football coach who is the head coach of the Catalans Dragons in the Betfred Super League and a former professional player. He is a former coach of England, and a Great Britain international as a player. At club level he played for Hull F.C., Bradford Bulls, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and the Huddersfield Giants. # Chorley Lynx was an English professional rugby league club based in Chorley, Lancashire. Under various names, they were members of the Rugby Football League 1989–93 and 1995–2004. History Formation as Chorley Borough Springfield Borough had moved to Chorley in 1988 and changed their name to Chorley Borough. At the end of the 1988–89 season, the club decided to move again, to Altrincham as Trafford Borough, and this caused a boardroom split, leading to five Blackpool-based directors resigning to form a new club that would remain based in Chorley and using the Chorley Borough name.
