Jerry Dorey
Jerry Dorey was a member of the States of Jersey 1993–2005. Biography Jerry Dorey was born in 1951 at Ealing, London. He was educated at Victoria College, Jersey and Oxford University, gaining an M.A. (Oxon) in French. He took up a career as a freelance computer programmer in Jersey before being elected to the States of Jersey as Deputy for Saint Helier No.1 district in 1993. As a Deputy he was a member of Education, Health, Public Services, Broadcasting, JTA, Employment and Social Security and Establishment Committees; he sat on the Marina Committee of Inquiry, and the Limited Liability Partnerships Committee of Inquiry. Paul Le Claire
Paul Vincent Le Claire (born 1963) is a Jersey politician who was a member of the States of Jersey from 1999 to 2011. He represented the Saint Helier District No.1 constituency and between 1999 and 2005 had an island-wide mandate as a senator. Biography He was born in 1963 in Jersey. Electoral history Le Claire first stood in a by-election for a vacant senatorial seat in a by-election held in February 1999, coming second to Jerry Dorey with 1,811 votes. In a subsequent by-election in April 1999, he was, however, successful in gaining one of the three seats as a deputy for St Helier No.1 District. Later that year, Le Claire again sought an island-wide mandate as senator. He was elected in the October 1999 general election, coming fourth with 8,287 votes in a contest for six seats. Geraint Jennings
Geraint Jennings (born 13 May 1966) is a Jersey member of Municipality of St Helier and linguist. Biography Born in Saint Helier, he was educated at Victoria College Preparatory and Christ's Hospital. He graduated from University College, Oxford with a Master of Arts (Oxon) in Modern Languages. Further studies include a Licenciate Diploma in TESOL from Trinity College, London. He is fluent in Russian. His interests include art and illustration. He is the Procureur du Bien Public for the parish of St Helier. Jèrriais He is a teacher of Jèrriais and strongly active in the Société Jersiaise, which is a group dedicated to maintaining Jersey's language, history and culture. He created Les Pages Jèrriaises, and currently maintains them. He is the resident Jèrriais reporter for the Jersey Evening Post and Parish Matters. Senator
A senate is a deliberative assembly, often the upper house or chamber of a bicameral legislature. The name comes from the ancient Roman Senate (Latin: ''Senatus''), so-called as an assembly of the senior (Latin: ''senex'' meaning "the elder" or "old man") and therefore considered wiser and more experienced members of the society or ruling class. Elections In Jersey
Elections in Jersey take place for the States Assembly and at parish-level. Various parties have been formed over the years in Jersey, but few candidates stand for election affiliated to any political party. All elections in Jersey use the first-past-the-post voting system. In 2008, the voting age was reduced to 16 years. National elections Jersey elects a legislature. From November 2011, the States Assembly has 51 elected members: 10 Senators (elected on an island-wide basis), 29 Deputies (elected in single- and multi-seat constituencies) and 12 Connétables (heads of the parishes). The normal term of office for elected States Members is four years, though members elected in October 2011 and October 2014 will serve for shorter periods.
