1998–99 Greek Football Cup
The 1998–99 Greek Football Cup was the 57th edition of the Greek Football Cup. Olympiacos defeated Panathinaikos in the final on May 5, 1999. Tournament details In total, 60 teams participated: 18 from Alpha Ethniki, 18 from Beta, and 24 from Gamma. The competition was held over six rounds, included the final. The first three rounds were single elimination matches. AEK Athens and PAOK, both of the Alpha Ethniki, were eliminated by lower division teams Poseidon Michaniona and Panserraikos respectively. As is typically seen in this tournament, half of the eight quarter-final teams came from Beta Ethniki. They were Kalamata, Panserraikos, Athinaikos and ILTEX Lykoi. The final was contested in Athens at Olympic Stadium on May 5, 1999, by the eternal enemies, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. They had last met in the Greek Cup Final in 1992–93. Panionios G.S.S. Football Club (Greek: ΠΑΕ Πανιώνιος Γ.Σ.Σ.), the ''Pan- Ionian Gymnastics Club of Smyrna'' (Πανιώνιος Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος Σμύρνης, ''Panionios Gymnastikos Syllogos Smyrnis''), more commonly known as Panionios F.C. or simply Panionios, is a Greek amateur football club based in Nea Smyrni, Athens, Greece. Part of Panionios G.S.S. (founded in 1890 in Smyrna, Ottoman Empire), Panionios F.C. is the oldest Greek football club. In the wake of the Greco-Turkish War (1919–22) and the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, the multi-sport club Panionios G.S.S. was transferred to Athens. They have won two Greek Cups (in 1979 and 1998), while they were runners-up in the Greek Championship during the 1950–51 and 1970–71 seasons. ILTEX Lykoi
ILTEX Lykoi ( el, ΗΛΤΕΞ Λύκοι) was a football club based in Kalochori, Thessaloniki, Greece. The team was owned by the Greek businessman Kostas Iliadis. Iliadis was the owner of a group of companies that consisted of Iltex Lykoi, Knitting Mills of Pieria, Iltex S.A, Dyeing Industry of Sindos S.A, Dyeing Industry of Kilkis S.A, Iltex Construction company S.A, with a total turnover of 70 million Euro and 900 people staff. Iliadis group of companies was the most important textile company in Greece for more than a decade (1990–2003). In 2004 the problems of reduced demand, inadequate financing from banks to textile industry, forced Iliadis to bankruptcy and the football club merged with the team Anagennisi Epanomi. The most important highlight in the team's history was the participation in Greek Second division in the late 1990s. Kozani ( el, Κοζάνη, ) is a city in northern Greece, capital of Kozani regional unit and of Western Macedonia. It is located in the western part of Macedonia, in the northern part of the Aliakmonas river valley.
