1998 FA Trophy Final
The 1998 FA Trophy Final was the 29th final of the FA Trophy, the Football Association's cup competition for levels 5–8 of the English football league system. It was contested by Cheltenham Town F.C., Cheltenham Town and Southport F.C., Southport on 17 May 1998 at Wembley Stadium (1923), Wembley, London. Cheltenham Town won the match 1–0 to win the first major silverware in the club's history. Jamie Victory
Jamie Victory (born 14 November 1975) is an English former footballer. He played as a defender and was last attached to Cheltenham Town, where he wore the number three shirt and usually acted as a left full back. He was born in Hackney. Career Early in his career he spent time at West Ham United's youth system. He signed on at Cheltenham Town on a free transfer from AFC Bournemouth in 1995. At the start of the 2006–07 season, Victory had a testimonial game featuring the current Cheltenham Town team against a team of Cheltenham Town legends including Julian Alsop, Mike Duff, Martin Devaney, and Steve Book among others. David Thompson (footballer Born 1962)
David Stephen Thompson (born 27 May 1962) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder. Born in Manchester, Thompson started his professional career with Rochdale before joining Notts County in 1986. Thompson joined Wigan Athletic in October 1987. During his three seasons at the club, he scored 16 goals in 108 League appearances, and was the club's Player of the Year for the 1988–89 season. In the 1989–90 League Cup, Thompson scored in the first leg of Wigan's second round tie against Liverpool, giving them a 2–1 lead at Anfield, although the team eventually went on to lose the match 2–5. Timothy James Ryan (born 10 December 1974) is an English former professional footballer. On 14 November 2018 he was appointed York City Youth Team Manager. Playing career Ryan joined Darlington in January 2007 signing from Boston United. Paul Futcher
Paul Futcher (25 September 1956 – 23 November 2016) was an English professional footballer who had a distinguished career as a defender in the English Football League, for England under 21s and as manager of several non-league clubs. He is regarded as a club legend by Grimsby Town who signed him at the age of 35 when he was apparently past his best. He went on to be described as one of the club's greatest ever players. Phil Horner
Philip Matthew Horner (born 10 November 1966) is an English former professional footballer. He is now a qualified physiotherapist and works at his former playing club Blackpool. Career Horner was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire. He began his career with Leicester City in 1983, but he only made ten league appearances in five years at Filbert Street and spent a short spell on loan at Rotherham United in the 1985–86 season. In 1988, he joined Halifax Town, then managed by Billy Ayre. Horner followed Ayre to Blackpool when the latter became manager of the Tangerines in 1990. Billy Stewart (born 1 January 1965) is a former professional footballer who played goal, primarily with Chester City. He currently coaches with West Ham United Ladies first team as their Goalkeeping Coach. He joined West Ham United after spending the previous three seasons with Accrington Stanley FC first team and helped them gain promotion to the EFL league 1 as League 2 Champions in the 2017–8 season. Steve Cotterill
Stephen John Cotterill (born 20 July 1964) is an English former footballer who played as a striker. He is currently the manager of side Shrewsbury Town. Cotterill had a nine-year career as a footballer playing for Burton Albion, Wimbledon, Brighton & Hove Albion and AFC Bournemouth before deciding to take up football management. He began with Irish side Sligo Rovers and after a year he returned to England and took over at his home town club, Cheltenham Town. Dale Allan Watkins (born 4 November 1971) is an English former footballer who played as a forward. Career Watkins began his career with Sheffield United. In 1991, Watkins signed for hometown club Peterborough United. At Peterborough, Watkins made ten Football League appearances, before dropping into Non-League football, playing for Peterborough City, Wisbech Town and Grantham Town. Clive Walker (born 25 June 1957 in Oxford, England) is an English retired footballer. His playing career spanned some 1,000 league and cup games for Chelsea, Sunderland, Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion before enjoying a renaissance in the Conference with Woking and Cheltenham Town.
