1996 Scottish Cup Final
The 1996 Scottish Cup Final sponsored by Tennents was played on 18 May 1996, at Hampden Park in Glasgow and was the final of the 111th Scottish Cup. Rangers and Hearts contested the match, Rangers won the match 5–1, thanks to a Gordon Durie hat-trick and a Brian Laudrup brace. Match summary In the first half Laudrup put Rangers ahead with a low right foot shot into the left corner of the net after a high pass through from Gordon Durie. The second goal came in the fiftieth minute when Laudrup hit a low left footed cross in from the right which Hearts' goalkeeper Gilles Rousset allowed to slip through his hands and under his legs and into the net at the near post. Durie then put Rangers three nil up after he volleyed home with the outside of his right foot after a left wing cross by Laudrup. Alex Cleland
Alexander Cleland (born 10 December 1970) is a Scottish professional football player and coach. Cleland played as a defender for Scottish sides Rangers and Dundee United and English team Everton. Although never capped at senior level for Scotland, he did make eleven appearances for the under-21 team. After retiring from football, he moved into coaching, having two spells as caretaker boss at Livingston and twice at St Johnstone. Dave McPherson (footballer)
David McPherson (born 28 January 1964, in Paisley) is a Scottish former international footballer who played as a defender, best known for his spells with Rangers and Heart of Midlothian, spending two periods with each club. Career Early years at Rangers McPherson began at amateurGartcosh Unitedbefore starting his professional career with boyhood favourites Rangers in 1980, breaking into the first team while still a teenager. Walter Smith
Walter Ferguson Smith (24 February 1948 – 26 October 2021) was a Scottish association football player, manager and director, primarily associated with his two spells as manager of Glasgow club Rangers. A defender, Smith's playing career consisted of two spells with Dundee United, split by a short time at Dumbarton. A pelvic injury caused his retirement from playing and Smith moved into coaching at Dundee United, working for manager Jim McLean. Smith also took charge of the Scotland under-18 and under-21 teams, and assisted Scotland manager Alex Ferguson at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, after it had been announced that he would be moving to Rangers as assistant to Graeme Souness. Erik Bo Andersen
Erik Bo Andersen (born 14 November 1970) is a Danish former professional footballer who played six matches for the Denmark national team and represented Denmark at UEFA Euro 1996. He played in the striker position and won the 1995 Danish Superliga championship with Aalborg Boldspilklub, the Scottish Premier Division twice with Rangers F.C., and the Norwegian Cup with Odd Grenland. Ian Durrant
Ian Durrant (born 29 October 1966) is a Scottish professional football coach and former player who is currently a first team coach at East Kilbride. During his playing career, Durrant played as a midfielder for Rangers for 13 years and was part of the team that won nine successive league championships to equal a record set by rivals Celtic, although he barely played for three years after suffering a serious knee injury in 1988, having established himself as an important member of the side. Gordan Petrić
Gordan Petrić (; born 30 July 1969) is a Serbian football manager and former player who is the manager of Serbian SuperLiga club Partizan. Club career Petrić made his senior debut with OFK Beograd in the 1985–86 season, as the club suffered relegation from the top flight of Yugoslav football. He was transferred to Partizan in the 1989 winter transfer widow. In the following five years, Petrić won one league title and two national cups, before transferring to Scottish club Dundee United in November 1993. Stuart McCall
Andrew Stuart Murray McCall (born 10 June 1964) is a professional football coach and former player. He is assistant manager at Sheffield United. McCall played in a total of 763 league games and in 40 full international matches for Scotland during his playing career. McCall started his career with Bradford City, where he made his first-team debut in 1982. He played six seasons at Valley Parade, during which time he won the Division Three championship, a title which was overshadowed by the Bradford City stadium fire when 56 people died and in which his father Andy was injured. Ian Ferguson (born 15 March 1967) is a Scottish football coach and retired professional player. He started his career with Clyde, then moved to St Mirren in 1986, scoring the winning goal as the club won the 1987 Scottish Cup Final. Ferguson moved to Rangers in 1988 and stayed with the Ibrox club for 12 years, during which time he helped them win nine consecutive Scottish league championships. He has since been inducted to the club's Hall of Fame. He played for Dunfermline Athletic for two seasons, before emigrating to Australia where he played for Northern Spirit and Central Coast Mariners. John Brown (born 26 January 1962) is a Scottish former professional footballer who also worked as a manager. Brown played for Hamilton Academical, Dundee and Rangers, primarily as a central defender but also as a left full-back or defensive midfielder. Alan McLaren
Alan James McLaren (born 4 January 1971, in Edinburgh) is a Scottish former footballer, who played for Heart of Midlothian and Rangers. Football career Club McLaren started his career with Hearts in 1987 and made over 180 appearances for the Tynecastle club. He moved to Rangers in October 1994 in a £2m part-exchange deal, with Dave McPherson moving the opposite direction.
