1984 U.S. Figure Skating Championships
The 1984 U.S. Figure Skating Championships took place in Salt Lake City, Utah. Medals were awarded in three colors: gold (first), silver (second), and bronze (third) in four disciplines – men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing – across three levels: senior, junior, and novice. Christopher Bowman
Christopher Nicol Bowman (March 30, 1967 – January 10, 2008) was an American figure skater. He was a two-time World medalist (silver in 1989, bronze in 1990), the 1983 World Junior champion, and a two-time U.S. national champion. He competed in two Olympic Winter Games, placing 7th in 1988 and 4th in 1992. Early years Bowman was born in Hollywood, California. Debra Janine Thomas (born March 25, 1967) is an American former figure skater and physician. She is the 1986 World champion, the 1988 Olympic bronze medalist, and a two-time U.S. national champion. Her rivalry with East Germany's Katarina Witt at the 1988 Calgary Olympics was known as the Battle of the Carmens. Early life Thomas was born in Poughkeepsie, New York and grew up in San Jose, California. Her parents divorced when she was young. Elaine Kathryn Zayak (born April 4, 1965) is an American former figure skater. She is the 1982 World champion and 1981 U.S. national champion. She competed at the 1984 Winter Olympics, placing 6th. Personal life Zayak was born and raised in Paramus, New Jersey. At age two, she lost three toes on her left foot as a result of a lawn mower accident. On the advice of her doctors, she began figure skating as physical therapy. Her left boot was stabilized with a wood mold to compensate for the irregularity in the shape of her left foot. Zayak attended Paramus High School and was awarded the Dial Award for the national high-school scholar-athlete of the year in 1982. He was the 1986 NHK Trophy champion, 1985 Danubius Thermal Trophy champion, 1987 Grand Prix International de Paris silver medalist, and 1988 Skate Canada International bronze medalist. James "Jim" Cygan is an American former figure skater. He is the 1982 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalist, 1986 Golden Spin of Zagreb bronze medalist, and 1989 Winter Universiade silver medalist. He belonged to the Broadmoor Skating Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Beginning in the 1980–81 season, Cygan was coached by Carlo Fassi.
