1982 Intercontinental Cup
The 1982 Intercontinental Cup was an association football match played on 12 December 1982 between Peñarol, winners of the 1982 Copa Libertadores, and Aston Villa, winners of the 1981–82 European Cup. The match was played at the National Stadium in Tokyo. It was Aston Villa's first appearance into the competition, whereas it was Peñarol's fourth appearance after the victories in 1961 and 1966, and the defeat in 1960. Peñarol
Club Atlético Peñarol (; English: ''Peñarol Athletic Club'') —also known as ''Carboneros'', ''Aurinegros,'' and (familiarly) ''Manyas''— is a Uruguayan sports club from Montevideo. The name "Peñarol" comes from the Peñarol neighbourhood on the outskirts of Montevideo. Throughout its history the club has also participated in other sports, such as basketball and cycling. Jimmy Rimmer
John James Rimmer (born 10 February 1948) is an English former footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Manchester United, Swansea City, Arsenal and Aston Villa. Rimmer, who won two European Cup winners medals, has been described by the Birmingham Mail as "perhaps the greatest goalkeeper in Aston Villa's history". Club career Rimmer joined Manchester United as a schoolboy in 1963, turning professional two years later. Hugo Bagnulo
Víctor Hugo Bagnulo Fernández (23 July 1915 – 7 February 2008) was a Uruguayan football player and manager. He is most famous for his managing success at Uruguayan giants Peñarol, with whom he won five national league titles. Career Bagnulo's playing career spanned 12 years from 1935 to 1947, during which he played as a defender for Uruguayan sides Central Español, Defensor and Danubio. His first coaching experience came on Defensor's tour in Chile in 1946, where he led the club to a 6–0 victory in a friendly against Chilean club Colo-Colo. He was also capped once for Uruguay, appearing in a Copa Newton 4–1 defeat to Argentina on 25 May 1942. In 1947, he joined Danubio, where he was at the same time a player and youth coach. Fernando Morena Belora (born 2 February 1952) is a Uruguayan former professional footballer who played as a striker. His most known nicknames were "Nando"(abridged form of Fernando) and "Potrillo" (Colt, although young stallion is a better translation in this case), and he is the all-time top goal scorer in the history of the Uruguayan Primera División with 230 goals in 244 games. Nelson Daniel Gutiérrez Luongo (born 13 April 1962) is a Uruguayan former footballer who played as a defender. He obtained a total number of 57 international caps for the Uruguay national football team, and was a member of the team that competed at the 1986 and 1990 FIFA World Cups.
