Soviet Top League
The Soviet Top League, known after 1970 as the Higher League (russian: Чемпионат СССР по футболу: Высшая лига), served as the top division of Soviet Union football from 1936 until 1991. The professional top level of football competition among clubs was established in 1936 on proposition of Nikolai Starostin and was approved by the All-Union Council of Physical Culture. Originally it was named Group A. After World War II it became known as the First Group. In 1950, after another reform of football in the Soviet Union, the First Group was replaced with Class A. By 1970, the Class A had expanded to three tiers with the top tier known as the Higher Group which in 1971 was renamed into the Higher League. It was one of the best football leagues in Europe, ranking second among the UEFA members in 1988–89 seasons. Football Club Kairat ( kk, Qaırat Fýtbol Klýby) is a professional football club based in Almaty, which plays in the Kazakhstan Premier League, the highest level of Kazakh football. Founded in 1954 as Lokomotiv Alma-Ata, they became Urozhay in 1955 and Kairat in 1956. The club's home ground is the Central Stadium which has a capacity of 23,804. The club's home kit colours are yellow and black striped shirts, black shorts and black socks. Kairat was the leading Kazakh club during the Soviet period and the only representative of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic in the Soviet Top League. Berador Khasanovich Abduraimov (russian: Берадор Хасанович Абдураимов) (born May 14, 1943) is a Soviet former football player, who played for Pakhtakor for most of his football career as a striker. He is regarded as one of the best strikers and greatest football players in the history of Uzbek football. The 1969 Soviet Football Championship of the Class A Second Group (russian: Чемпионат СССР 1969 года во второй группе класса «А») was the seventh season of the Class A Second Group that was established in 1963. It was also the 29th season of the Soviet second tier league competition. The season started on April 1, 1969, with the Round 1 games in Group 4. The season ended with the last round of the Final stage played on November 6, 1969.
