1960 Orange Bowl
The 1960 Orange Bowl was the 26th edition of the college football bowl game, played at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, on Friday, January 1. Part of the 1959–60 bowl game season, the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) shut out the #18 Missouri Tigers of the Big Eight Conference, 14–0. Wally Butts
James Wallace Butts Jr. (February 7, 1905 – December 17, 1973) was an American football player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head coach at the University of Georgia from 1939 to 1960, compiling a record of 140–86–9. His Georgia Bulldogs football teams won a national championship in 1942 and four Southeastern Conference titles (1942, 1946, 1948, 1959). Butts was also the athletic director at Georgia from 1939 to 1963. He was inducted posthumously into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1997. Playing career Butts was a 1929 graduate of Mercer University where he played college football under coach Bernie Moore, as well as baseball and basketball. He was an alumnus of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Bill McKenny
William Dee McKenny (August 4, 1940 - January 31, 2021) was an American gridiron football player. He played college football at the University of Georgia from 1959 to 1961 and was a member of the 1959 Georgia Bulldogs football team that won the Orange Bowl. Early life McKenny was born in Slayton, Minnesota, to Charles and Velma McKenny in 1940. The family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1942. McKenny achieved stardom at Landon High, Jacksonville, Florida, capping his career there by being the MVP for the North squad in the 1958 Florida High School All Star game. He earned All State, AllSouthern, and All America recognition in 1957. Fran Tarkenton
Francis Asbury Tarkenton (born February 3, 1940) is an American former professional football player who was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for 18 seasons, primarily with the Minnesota Vikings. He played college football at the University of Georgia, where he was recognized as a two-time first-team All- SEC, and was selected by the Vikings in the third round of the 1961 NFL Draft. After retiring from football, he became a media personality and computer software executive. Tarkenton's tenure with the Vikings spanned thirteen non-consecutive seasons. He played for Minnesota six seasons from 1961 to 1966 when he was traded to the New York Giants for five seasons, and then traded back to Minnesota for his last seven seasons from 1972 to 1978. Presidential Cup Bowl
The Presidential Cup Game (also known as the Presidential Cup Bowl) was a postseason American college football bowl game played at Byrd Stadium in College Park, Maryland, on December 8, 1950, between the Texas A&M Aggies and the Georgia Bulldogs. Entering the game The Aggies, coached by Harry Stiteler, entered the contest with a 6-4 record. A&M had posted victories over Nevada, Texas Tech, VMI, TCU, Arkansas, and SMU; while dropping contests against Oklahoma, Baylor, Rice, and Texas. The game was A&M's first post-season appearance since a 19-14 defeat at the hands of LSU in the 1944 Orange Bowl. Having posted records of 0-9-1 and 1-8-1 in his first two seasons in College Station, the 1950 season marked a huge turn-around for Stiteler's program. The Georgia Bulldogs football program represents the University of Georgia in the sport of American football. The Bulldogs compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
