The 1960 Democratic National Convention was held in Los Angeles, California, on July 11–15, 1960. It nominated United States Senate, Senator John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts for President of the United States, president and Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas for Vice President of the United States, vice president. In the 1960 United States presidential election, general election that November, the Kennedy–Johnson ticket won an United States electoral college, electoral college victory and a narrow popular vote plurality (slightly over 110,000 nationally) over the Republican candidates Vice President Richard Nixon, Richard M. Nixon and United Nations, UN Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., Henry C. Lodge II. Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena
The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena was a multi-purpose arena at Exposition Park, in the University Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. It was located next to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and just south of the campus of the University of Southern California, which managed and operated both venues under a master lease agreement with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission. The arena was closed in April 2016, and was demolished in September of that same year. It was replaced with Banc of California Stadium, home of Major League Soccer's Los Angeles FC, which opened in 2018.
